So how would you rate your own local comics that come from your own country? (And say what country that is)
For me, I'm from the US, and I guess it depends on the comic. But in general, I'd say they're pretty good. Different style, but still good. My roommate is a huge American comic fan too
Question: How do you rate comics from your country?
Choices:
I'm from Japan, enough said - votes: 193 (1.3%)
They're better than manga! - votes: 231 (1.5%)
They are as good as manga - votes: 1771 (11.8%)
Interesting, but not as good as manga - votes: 4710 (31.4%)
Really bad, I never read them - votes: 2334 (15.6%)
I don't know, I've never read them - votes: 3611 (24.1%)
My country doesn't have local comics - votes: 2156 (14.4%)
There were 15006 total votes.
The poll ended: February 5th 2011

I live in Israel and I can't say there're many comics here.
Or maybe I'm just not motivated enough to find them?
In any case, I don't like the ones I know much.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

I really liked reading Watchmen (but have never seen the movie, and probably won't since the reviews are terrible).
Comics aren't what I go for though.
As for American "manga"... well, since I don't find it to be... authentic Japanese manga, I have no interest and no care for them.

in my place we have comics so-called manvi. and it sucks.
old authors stuff so much moral lessons in their story which makes reading it the same as reading bible.
young ones adapt manga style, so their drawing is less distinctive but easier to get into. though untill now I haven't seen anything decent.
well, everything has its beginning. let's just hope for the better 🙄

USA
i know i shouldn't discriminate
but when i see a comic from my country i imagine it wont get far
at most 2 volumes.
...and so i flip through it to check out the art
whether the art is good or not, i dont read anything more than 1 chapter probably per year.
sorry guys.. D:
well hey i'm sure there some others out there who don't mind
why because i am the president of the student council of course

Not satisfying
most in term of stories which is the most important factor for me to decide reading a manga,
and the drawing for many local mangakas still rough...
it just drawing, far to be called artworks
British comics huh...
Hmm, I prefer the stuff from America when it comes to comics.
Most of the British comics these days are the classics like Beano and stuff. They don't really make it very modern anymore.
It's like they've succumbed under the pressure from imported comics and just don't bother 🤣

Germany, I must admit that I do only know ones which I absolutely don't like.
But I really like asterix from France, but I guess I cannot vote since it's not my country.
There are good ones and some not that good ones, but I would say they are just different. Right now there is no one that is widely popular, but there used to be some. Still comics here (Argentina) aren't anywhere close to manga when it comes to popularity and variety, also as for well known ones, I could probably count them with only with one hand...

I live in Ireland, and our comics scene is pretty small and mostly based around our capital city, Dublin. The majority of it is comprised of self-published humour, anthology and slice-of-life comics. There are a few titles I'd highly recommend, like Mr. Amperduke, Blackshapes and Last Bus, but even those don't begin to compare to my favourite manga and non-Irish comics.
I do try to support our scene all the same and buy whatever's new when I have the money, seeing as I myself hope to be a comics artist and often engage in comic events.
My only gripe is that nobody really wants to take the scene anywhere beyond people doing their own little thing whenever they feel like it and patting each other on the back, which is entirely their own decision in the long run to be honest. There are a handful of guys that did make it abroad with the big American companies though, hopefully I might get just as lucky in the coming years...

From the USA and I think a lot of them are really good, especially if you count the graphic novels as well. Also, how can you not like Batman, The Long Halloween is epic.

In France.. Well I don't like comics from here. The only one I've ever read is Asterix, the others don't seem really interesting

The only comics I know from England are the Beano and the Dandy, which I loved as a kid but are not really riveting reading. I might be missing something but the only comic books I read are manga. I like the TV adaptations of some American comics, like x-men and superman, but I've never read the comics so can't comment.
I don't really think we have the same comic book culture in England, comics have the stigma as being for kids, probably because British comics are, and it is only fairly recently (in the last few years) that comics have been seen in mainstream bookstores. So I'm not really well informed.
Since I now live in Japan, well I have manga when I learn to read colloquial Japanese, lol.

germany. well, in short, our comics are crap. the only good stories are in the german mickey mouse magazine and the mickey mouse bounded comics called "lustiges taschenbuch" with the usual mousetown and duckburg characters (but they are both dubbed the sam in german "entenhausen", so the readers thinks they live in the same town). the other few german comics look stupid like this. thanks god 80 percent of our comic market is made out of manga, manwha and manuha, while most of the "normal comics" are either french or american. if you ever see a german comic, then DON´T BUY IT

Have you British guys never even heard of 2000AD? It's been published consistently every week since the 70s!
There is way more to Brit comics than just The Beano and The Dandy, hahaha! 🤣 Hell, some of the best-selling Marvel and DC comics are written and drawn by British folks...
