Yeah other manga before dragon ball was either drama ,comedy nothing like dragon ball fights. Even if it was action it is nothing like dragon ball name any manga shonuen manga that is action and they have some thing like dragon ball.

Seriously, i think the battle between Gaara and Rock Lee during the genin exam. I still watch it sometimes, sigh... the good old days of Naruto 🙁

Started a mere 1 year before, AND doesn't have the widespread impact that Dragon Ball has.
Mentioning an obscure manga when trying to overshadow the most popular shounen manga ever doesn't really seem... appropriate.

I didn't try to overshadow Dragon Ball. The question was about a manga with action and that have something like DB. I don't think my answer is inappropriate at all.

I can only speak for my reality, if you come to Italy and ask every person if he knows Goku or Ken or both I'm pretty sure Goku won't win (unless you ask kids). DB popularity started here about 1999/2000, while Hokuto no Ken's anime is THE anime that chracterized my childhood along with Saint Seiya (same for many of my friends).

Cowboy bebop had the most epic battles by far. Spike Spiegel vs. Vicious first and last battles were awesome. That and the entire episode of "Pierrot le Fou" with the character of the same name vs. Spike kicked ass.
edit: Whoops, didn't notice the manga only requirement. In that case no idea. Manga battles don't have the same visceral punch anime can attain.
