I like the dictator types. The smart and powerful dudes.
You know, guys that act like they should rule the world/ destroy just because.
Sort of like Megatron & Doctor Doom.

Hmm, it seems one of the options should have been "Psychotic bastard"--my brother wanted that too: another Joker fan. 🤨 Don't jump on me, though. I'll admit he's a great villain. But exhausting--you never know what he'll do next.

I voted for "Rivals with dignity". There's more conflict when the readers can't decide what they want, and also there's less cursing of the antagonist when they pull a filthy trick because they don't. After rival would be, I think, low class bullies: they're such fun to thrash, and tend to be fairly easy opponents. At least they are to any protagonist I love. Pwnage! Third is rich oppressors, except that if they're anything like possible to beat they fit into one of the above categories. :< Actually, forget rich oppressors. They're either semisympathetic or really annoying.

Caliber, that sounds like what I saw of Aizen in Bleach? Who, incidentally, irritates me through the mere fact of being a bad guy who looks so damn cute. I still manage to hate him, though--I think because he projects "good boy" and isn't. 😐

What about rabid fanboys?

Rivals with dignity are the best. I love not being able to tell if I like them or not.

Quote from VyvyanWilde

Rivals with dignity is what I voted for. If they're obviously low class or disloyal, if they're an obvious bad-guy, it's less interesting. No one in real life is only bad or only good, so just like the protagonist shouldn't be perfect, the antagonist shouldn't be completely dark or without shame.

I agree. It makes them more human and presents several interesting options/perspectives to the story based on their actions.

My best antagonist is either psychotic freak ( like joker 😃 ) or evil genius 😳 .Sometime he intentionally fights by the main char 's side against 'betrayers','rich oppressors','dictators' or 'love rivals' type 😲 (of course, these must get some extreme powers), but with ulterior motives (like : if his main rival die, there would be no fun in the world, or just ' we exist to perfect each other').His background must be cover by darkness ( like, he comes from an other planet ...)

However, there must be others type of antagonists to make a certain type special, then their interaction become interesting (and complicated)

My answer is my response from the last poll, only changing one word:

Quote from walrothetacoking

Where's the option for sexiness? The best antagonists are always hot chicks.

Failing that the antagonist should be sort of mentally disturbed, but that's not an option either.

Beyond dignity, I want an antagonist that you'd actually cry for when they die. Make the bad guy the good guy? I suppose what's-her-name from supreme fits the role, tho I wasn't thinking it. She also fits the req of "hot chicks" as Walrothetacoking puts. 😛

On the other hand, I really hate antagonists that are just plain crazy. I just want them to die and get it over with.

I like it when the antagonist has a reason for being it. I don't really care if they are rich, low class bullies or love rivals... I want there to be a clear rationale as to why they act as they do 😉

IMHO that is what makes a very good antagonist ^^

I'm missing the Evil-Genius option.
Intelligence and ruthlessness are the points that make villains most interesting for me.
Like Sicks in Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro or Aizen in Bleach.

I like antagonists who have a good reason to being evil, I picked Anyone as long as he/she is evil.

I like Rivals with dignity. they are more like a real people that have good side with bad side and they make the story more interesting with the question how they will win against protagonist next time. Sometime I want to cheer them on too not protagonist.(like himekawa ayumi in glass mask)
And I like Dictators secondly but they must intelligence and good at making a good evil tactic that will make the protagonist almost beaten or lost. It's excitting that way!(like queen nakia in anatolia story)

I totally agree with this. It makes the story more interesting, and less generic. Guess I got tired of the straight evil characters from reading too much. Geez, just how many people want to rule the world for no apparent reason?

I like the "Rivals with Dignity." Antagonists aren't necessarily the bad guys, just the person who opposes the protagonist. Anyways, I don't like those downright mean/evil.

a antagonist with a cause and wants to change something and would do anything to achieve it and doesnt just seek some material thing like ruling the world, money, or power as his main goal hell his cause can be something simple like Yggdrasil in tales of symphonia who wanted to resurrect his sister.

I like the smart ass or the "lazy" ones that are funny. I also like it when they are cold and really smart with dignity kind of like Sesshomaru from Inuyasha.
