One Outs, a surprisingly addicting anime. A hidden gem.
"The story begins when Hiromichi Kojima, the star batter of the fictional Lycaons in Japan's Pacific League, heads to the southern Japanese island of Okinawa to train and bring himself out of a slump. There, he meet Tōa Tokuchi, a 134-kmph (83 miles per hour) pitcher and the undisputed king of a gambling form of baseball called "One Out." At Kojima's urging, Tokuchi signs up with the Lycaons under an unusual contract: he gets 5,000,000 yen (about US$46,000) for every out he pitches, but loses 50,000,000 yen (US$460,000) for every point he gives up. (Source: ANN) "
Rurouni Kenshin - not a zero to hero type of thing but it's still great. The only drawback is that it's old.
"Ten years after the start of the Meiji Era, a Rurouni wanders into Tokyo to find a new life with his new friends. Vowing never to kill, he tries to escape his fate as the greatest killer of the Edo dynasty.
An old menace threatens the new Meiji Era, the villian is Shishio Makoto, the successor to the Hitokiri Battousai who was supposed to have died in the Boshin Wars. Shishio and his Juppon Gatana are ready to start a new revolution to correct the wrong doings of the Meiji Government and also to avoid colonization. "
Tales of the Abyss - adaptation of the game; standard 0>hero.
'Luke fon Fabre, the son of Duke Fabre of the Kimlasca Kingdom, is 17 years old. He is the Light of the Sacred Flame who is destined to bring prosperity to Kimlasca. But since being kidnapped seven years ago by the Malkuth empire, he has been kept confined to the Fabre family mansion. The shock of the kidnapping erased all of Luke's memories prior to the event. But one fateful day, a mysterious woman breaks into the mansion and sets off a chain of events that will change the world forever...'
World Destruction - another adaptation from the same game; 0>hero.
'In a world where humans serve as livestock for the ruling beastman, and where sand fills the roles of water and fire. Kyrie is recruited by the "World Destruction Committee" to assist in putting an end to their world. Kyrie alone holds the power needed to do it.'

Stumbled upon this when I was looking for random anime and wow was I surprised. It has the kinda zero to hero (saying anything more would spoil it) and there are hints of romance through the series (11 ep). There are also 3 movies (one is a recap for the TV series, the other two are sequels) though I haven't watched them yet.
The directing+characters+story+pacing is great imo.
"But why?"
"Because I can."
"OMFG, DON'T STAND IN THE FIRE!!!"

Maybe Angel Beats! and Baka to Tesuto to Shoukanjuu? 😕
Alice came to a fork in the road.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
