Global Warming
rofl, I can't believe no one has made this thread yet.
... Or did they. >.> <.<
Just saw the news, and Morocco has snow... I mean, like wtf. o.o That's even south of Spain and Italy, you know?!! And they have snow, and I'm not talking about deep in the mountains either~ Hmm, I don't really know what to believe or think since I'm not that informed about it nor am I an expert. .__."
To avoid making a fool out of myself, I'll let you do the talking~

I think it's over talked about.
I just think it's the government using it as an excuse to get more money out of us.
I don't doubt it's happening, but seriously, by the sounds of it it's inevitable.

I think it's true. It makes sense. But oh well, what can you do? Nothing's going to change (maybe). So whether or not it's true, I'm not going to be any different 😛

There has been a bit of grey area about global warming, its AN issue but its not as much of an issue as people say there is.
Personally I believe the global warming is hyped up so much so scientist can get huge funds from governments to do research. If a scientist were to write a research paper saying he wants to research into a small issue in the nether region that no non-scientist knows or cares about then the government isn't going to give you money. If you however propose something along the lines of "OH MY GAWD GLOBAL WARMING IS HERE THE SKY IS FALLING" sooner or later you'll get a bigger budget than NASA. (that is a lie, you can never out budget NASA).
I really think its about sustainability, you say that we will reduce pollutants to zero! Its impossible, you know why? Because we humans are the biggest environmental hazards. Nobody is going to let you lay off millions of people because we're environmental hazards. Its all about economic growth and what not lately, the ideal way for use to improve is by growing socially and environmentally, as in slow the economic growth down and actually give a shit for once.
My rant for this evening.
Edit: Here are some driving factors for Environmental Management Systems and the Agenda 21 Earth Summit.
Doubling of the world population by 2100.
Poverty, starvation, extinction, climate change.
Environmental events, Bhopal, Chernobyl, Exxon Valdez, Love Canal.
Five to ten fold economic growth in 50 years.
Most rapid growth in developing world.
Ecology and economic growth are interlocked.
The environment does not recognise national or economic boundaries.
Public awareness, concern and demand for improvement.
Do not feed the trolls

Global warming is very much a fact.
The thing I have trouble believing however is that it's the fault of people. I seriously doubt humans have that much of a significance.
The way I see it, global warming is no more than a natural occurence. It seems very illogical to me to think that climates don't gradually change.
I read somewhere a while ago that in the time of the roman empire, Britain actually had vinyards. Brittain!
There are also records that say the river thames actually completely froze regularly during winter somewhere in the middle ages.
The planet is an ever changing organism of sorts. Nature is never static.
Also, does anyone recall a fun little theory back in the 70s called global cooling? That too, was supposedly caused by CO2 emissions.
Maybe it is all just a ruse by governments and stuff to scare people into saving energy and to consume less gasoline. Oil isn't infinite you know.
This winter is hella cold though, I wouldn't mind some global warming right now.

No it wasn't. It was caused by aerosols emissions... and the warming effect of CO2 has been known since, uh, forgot the date---probably mid 19th century (?)
Anyway, that's why people are avoiding the term "global warming" now, instead using "climate change". Global temp will definitely rise, but temp will also go down in some places.

Turns out the scientists faked most of the research and results and it's not even that bad.
We're affecting it, but not to the extent that we've been told we have.

I don't believe it. But I still believe in tooth fairies.

The hype is gradually being brought down to an appropriate level, some places will warm and some will cool (like the North American south thanks to natural aerosols from the forests). We will not be dead from it anytime soon, we are affecting it on some level, and it can be fixed.

I have personally seen evidence over the years that prove that global warming is real. Canada's winters have gradually been getting warmer and less snow is falling. It is true that global warming won't really us lead to instant death, but it will eventually catch up to us. Luckily, none of us will be around when it does.
Never doubt your reasons.
Never doubt your cause.

Personally I wouldn't mind some warming here in Finland... I don't really enjoy it when there's -20°C or so.

The consequences are real, but the effect us humans have on it is grossly overestimated. Infact recent studies have shown this "climate change" is a natural occurance. Unfortunately we do NOT have any power to stop the process for that we simply are to powerless at the moment.
Of course the consequences aren't that big and the process isn't nearly as quick as some politicians claim it to be, but they will eventually happen. Large parts of the West Coast of the US will become uninhabitable, billions of people in asia are going to have to relocate themselves and europe will start geting typhoons more frequently.

global warming IS real, but i think humanity's role in the regression of the environment is exaggerated in recent years
within our short existence on earth in the past thousands of years, we've caused innumerable destructions on our habitat, from using up most of the resources that took millions of years to culminate, to drastically altering the evolutionary process of the entire ecological system on earth...
although i'm sometimes greatly annoyed by environmental fanatics who enlarge the scale of human destruction, i still think that they're an important, radical force that's necessary the environmental movement to delay the effects of global warming
