Which main character do you think has had the most tragic and/or traumatic past in manga and anime, and what is it?

Edward Elric, maybe? Sorry, don't read much drama.

Kenshin or either of the main characters in Diablo would be my first thoughts.

The most tragic past I've ever encountered in a manga would have to be that of one of the girls from Gunslinger Girl. Don't know who's is the saddest though (they're all pretty sad); if pressed I'd say either Triela or Angelica.

Casca and Gutz (dont remember how to spell them) from berserk, doesn't get much worse than that...anyone who has read berserk(or seen the anime) shoud know what im talking about

I think the characters from the "Deep Love" series had it quite harsh. The most realistic the more tragic it seems, at least for me.

Gutts, hands down. Don't think his past had 1 good experience that wasn't immediately followed by up something extremely shitty.

I agree. I think Samurai X is a tragic manga. Many characters include Kenshin and his enemies, have tragic pasts. I feel so sorry for them (also for the enemies as well)! A very good manga though I typically wouldn't read something like this! 🤣

I'd probably say Angelica if I really had to choice, even if the one who I pity the most is Rico because of her current situation.
