Quote from chineserider

I have read a lot of shoujo mangas where people transfer their phone numbers just by having their phones touch (sending signals I suppose). Does this actually happen a lot in Japan, and what about other places in the world?

It's called sekigaisen and it's a kind of infra-red thing. As is, it's horribly outdated- you could do the same thing much more easily with, say, bluetooth (though that raises some security concerns).

I'm fairly certain this is a Japan-unique thing, but maybe elsewhere in Asia?

I dunno if this is the right thread, but if anyone can suggest me some names please do share.
I need names for 5 Gods
God of Time
God of War
God of Love
God of Wealth
God of Death

The names shouldn't be well known, I'd appreciate it if you make the names up, but still connected to their godly duties.
thanks

I think it's fine to have this answered here, but... Is it so hard to make them up yourself? We don't know what you're using them for or anything about the background or tone of this thing (presumably it's a story). Surely you are best equipped to choose the most suitable names.

I would say since you want the names to have a connection, I'd suggest looking up related words on wiktionary.org, looking at the translations and naming the Gods directly after a word in another language or slightly modifying it - for example, looking at "love" in other languages. I think Latin or Ancient Greek or any old language works well for this. So there's a kind of bilingual bonus. Or you could look at ancient mythology and take inspiration from that.

God of Time : Moebius / Ambrogio
God of War : Nemean / Melchers
God of Love : Bosch / Lustrum
God of Wealth : Mammon / Gillrai
God of Death : Gwillgy / Requiem (with/ with out) Mass / Defunctorum ( Latin for "The dead")

Mammon and Gillrai are both names of Artist that made a painting about Greed

Bosch is the name of an artist that made a painting about Lust, Lustrum us the origin of the word Lust from, it was a ritual of purification.

Melchers and Ambrogio are both name of artists too.

Also, the girl from mu2020, comes from "Gunslinger Girl", it's an amazing manga, i totally recommend it to you.

It's true that he can use the net to get a translation of anything, but there is the chance that he was asking to borrow our creativity, i tough about using the name of painters that used love, war, greed, lust, ect, for their paintings, and tough it was original.

I have write my self a few stories and i think is kind of boring to just name the characters by translating the name to some other language.

Then again, i might be wrong, maybe he isn't even writing anything.

While we're throwing names out there, here are mine:
God of Time : Chronos
God of War : Gevurah
God of Love : Adonis
God of Wealth : Ashima
God of Death : Mot

I took these from Semitic deities and Kabbalah mainly.

thanks for the answers,
I was planning to use it in a song as lyrics, there's a part where I sing very fast, it just has to sound cool with some hidden meaning, so I came up with that. weird huh?
And it's kinda lame when I use my own make-up names so I came here seeking for some inspiration

I was translating a document from Spanish to English and then came upon the word paseo. I searched the internet for over an hour and the only meaning I could find was taking a stroll and so on, but that is not the meaning I am looking for. I'm talking about the side lane you stop to for emergencies on the road. Does somebody knows how to say that in a single word in english? Thanks in advance 😀
