To me that is silly it was published in Japan in 2000 but in America in 2002. The name change is unless if they wanted to alter the name just drop the year.

That was done to make it more marketable, and to appease religious fanatics.

Honestly, while I do read and enjoy 666Satan, I can kinda agree with the name change. I want alot of people to read it and enjoy it. That way, Seishi will stop being called "Masashi Kishimoto's little brother", or "The Naruto Creator's Brother". I want him to be accepted as a good manga-ka, aswell, because he is good..

Masashi and Seishi have such similer styles, that its almost like its one manga-ka doing two titles.

What does "Utawarerumono" translate to? Or does it not translate because it's not a real word (but part of the story)?

Worst name changes I can think of? When they change the title of something that was originally titled in english anyway, like "Power" -> "Girl Got Game". >_>;

Yep, TokyoPop wanted to sell the manga to the masses. Unfortunately Girl Got Game gives me a better idea than Power!! as to what the story is, somehow. i have a bias because I found out about Power!! in an Animerica review.

Otana ni Nuts -> Instant Teen

Okay, I guess it sort of is that kind of story (I read an online review that gave it a low rating because the reviewer didn't see any redeeming features in the story). And the original title is something like 'growth nuts' 'aging nuts,' so I can understand that it's not marketable, but the new title sounds cheesy. Maybe the 'nuts' part would have bad cannotations since it's slang for guys 'packages'. 😛 XD But I look at the cover and go 😛 . And from the pics I've seen, it the cover looks like a cheap rip-off of a cereal box.

"Utawarerumono" translates to 'The One Being Sung' and yes, "Instant Teen (Just Add Nuts!)", looks like a really, really retarded ceral box (with calorie intake and such). I have heard that "Utawarerumono" being "Shadow Warrior Chronicles" was a mistake and that it should have been "Masked Warrior Stories" (or something to that effect).
I didn't like the change from "Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho" to "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" I feel a better translation would have been "Beyond the Clouds, Our Promised Place" but the real translation "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" was approved by Makoto Shinkai so that's not too bad... Turning "Karin" into "Chibi Vampires", on the other hand, was pretty stupid and they only did it so it wouldn't be confused with "Kamichama Karin" a different manga by Koge Donbo.

I always thought it would have been funny it they had used some english name instead of akira and called the whole Comic "Peter","John" or some other normal english name.

One of the most disputable and controversial name changes is, of course

GUNNM ==> Battle Angel Alita,

which was followed by stuff like Gally >> Alita, Salem >> Tiphares, etc. Whether it's good or bad is up to each one of us to decide, but it does sometimes cause some confusion.

Although I'm pretty fine with the way Viz renamed the series.
