Hello, I just signed up to post this. I've been reading manga since I was 12 , and then switched to Novels.

I'm back here for some reminiscence. But there is something here that is missing compared to Novel sites and quite frankly unfair to manga scanlators.

The website "Novelupdates.com" is like "Mangaupdates.com"

But you can go to a series and see the translated chapters and click on them . Then you will go read them at the translator's blog/or website . Where they get to gain Ad revenue for their service.

Some translator sites even take this a step futher and contacts the authors, to give them a share and formerly license their work.

Here you post the name of the group , but the links to them don't really get you anywhere . so I can't read the chapter on their website even if I want to.

I can only read on aggregate manga websites. And while I do appreciate their efforts to collect mangas in one place, they don't deserve to make money off others' work.

Plus they are dying as the war on them keeps escalating by licensors. who don't really care that there are other non-US conuntries that don't have these mangas licensed in them.

So my suggestion is that this site opens a feature like "Novel updates" to link each chapter on the translator's website . So this site becomes the manga aggregator and then from here to transaltors' websites not to manga websites.

Thank you for reading.

We will not be doing this any time soon, if ever. We used to do this back in the day, but we removed it after getting way too many DMCA notices

You've a lot of learning to do when it comes to scanlaitors.

  1. don't read on aggregator sites. They earn money thanks to you and put it in their own pocket. A lot of scanlaitors don't want that. Scanlaitors community get's alto of bad rap because of that. The novel side is organized slightly differently, what works there does not work for manga scanlaitors.
The only aggregator site that is kinda supported by the community (but not entirely) is mangadex where they have direct links to scanlaitors so you can use them for preview and got to scanlaitors website and read it there if that's what you wish for.

  2. Mangaupdates had links to scanlaitors site long ago but got to much pressure from the industry and was forced to remove those links. Like I said, what works on the novel side it doesn't work on manga side. Links are not coming back.

If you want to contnue using MU and have links available to you anyway use what's available to you in this topic:
    https://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=44044
    https://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=47968

read some more (opinions mostly): https://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=44069

This is just the basics.... I think you'll get a lot clearer picture what's going on with that and where your suggestion stands 🙂

Bang Bang you shot me down ....

Well guess now I know where the furture of "Novels" is headed once they start being as popular as manga and getting licensed.

I do think though that they're doing the industry more harm than good. bec. people get to know about mangas by trying them out . And they buy it because they're hooked and want the new chapters.

I also believe they should collaborate with scanlators to give them info on what people want then , a share for transalting.

It would be cool if we could read "Online" in affordable options either by supporting both the industry , translators, and licensors by subscription . or by disabling Ad block (many people , and many countries don't have credit cards widely spread) .

One last question if you made it through all that rant, the link of the addon that has scanlators' info. It's from 2013. Is it still getting updated?.

Thanks for the reply and all the links you provided. 🙂

Not the original person who posted the script, but yes, as far as I can tell, it's still being updated. It's user submitted, though, so it depends on the people who use it to keep it up to date.

As for the subscription/free chapters model, manga publishers are already doing that. See: Crunchyroll, Manga Plus, etc. MU does also list those chapters (as long as they're free) on the site.

There are many scripts you can use with tampermonkey that have this feature.
