Actually, I thought so because of other reasons. When she went back to her home and met with her family, she and her mom were spying on Keitaro and Naru under the guise of 'water nymphs'. When she reverted to child form for a while, she did seem to be faking... and asking to do 'stuff'. And when Keitaro's sister showed up, there was an instance where Keitaro was being tied up with a high probability of being raped by his sister in a hot spring, and Mutsumi was listening from the next spring and was enjoying the incest scenario playing out. I'm sure there's more.

While that was also the couple I was rooting for, I kind of liked that the mangka went the other way-or at least understood the reasoning.

I'm trying to think of shoujo where I really disliked the main couple and it's kind of hard-I've got a few where I'm not liking the current direction (Moe Kare, Uwase no Midori Kun, Vampire Knight, Nana, Loveless) but no final couple yet.

Oh wait, I've got a couple from CCS:

Kaho/Eriol-ok, so it may just be the whole shouta factor, but ick. Though I can handle Rika/Sensei a little bit better, so it could just be Kaho.

I still haven't read the Princess Tutu manga (both of its 2 volumes are not online so...) but I'm pretty sure with all my research that Ahiru ends up with the 'opposite guy' that she didn't sort of end up with in the anime. I find that sort of weird that you didn't want her with that guy because I know that there were many fans that were disappointed with who she was left with, or at least how Ahiru was dealt with at the end of the anime. There's a fair amount of fanfiction for ab anime that's only about 24 episodes rewriting or adding on to the end of the series, and that isn't super popular like Sailor Moon on fanfiction.net.

And just a note...

I know Ahiru 'sort of' ended up with Fakir and I'm guessing from my search with the PT manga that Ahiru hooked up with Mythos

I'd add some other couples because I know there are pairs where the girl should have gone with boy A instead of boy B.

Actually, for Absolute Boyfriend, I was really angry with who the girl actually picked. Or rather, maybe it's more how the mangaka let's the girl end up with both guys anyhow. And I heard Ayashi no Ceres has a guy end up the same way. >:-( I'm sure the guy in a shounen would move on after a reasonable time (if it's immediately, it's a rebound and I'd probably label him a bit of a cad), and I would respect him for having a spine. 🙂 People don't get to have his or her cake and eat it too. Well, that's my perspective about how after...

I forgot about Absolute Boyfriend, but same.

I hated that fact that even though she had this absolutely awesome real boy next to her, she chose the piece of metal. So I guess in someways I liked the final ship 'cause at least she ended up with the boy. I guess in his case he thought it was worth the wait-he knew that Night would die and the girl would be free, and I guess he accepted her fling with Night.

I just can't get into human/robot stories in general (though I don't hate Chobits-guess 'cause it's all philosophical there and there's no real girl competition)-keep thinking it's just wiring and good programming, and well I like my shiny tech toys, but ...

I'm pretty sure that Parfait Tic is completed in Japan. It's the scanlation that hasn't been finished. I've all ready read spoilers for this series from the lucky people who do read Japanese (or who are ethnically Japanese), and that spoiler is correct (or so I've been told).

The Ichigo pairing actually is pretty logical if you pay close attention to what's going on. I can perfectly understand preferring the other pairing, but if you think it's so horrible you just cannot read it anymore, then you're only looking at the manga from a superficial perspective, rather than paying close attention to the details. It's because the message of the manga seems to conflict with what people want it to be that everyone is so unhappy, but then there are so many other romance stories that you must hate too including like half the shoujo mangas out there.

The "friend" almost always fails in becoming the lover, even if he/she may seem to mesh better (though in the case of Ichigo 100%, Tsukasa meshes much, much better with Junpei than people give her credit for; she's arguably the better choice, but if it were up to me I'd take both =D)

A truly detestable pairing for me would be if, say, Shou managed to get Kyoko in Skip Beat. Thankfully I don't think that will happen.
