Just wondering, first, do you consider yourself to be a hikimori?

And also, do u think watching a lot ( I am talking like 8 hours a day) a bad addiction?
I myself used to watch at least 6 or 7 hours a day worth of anime. I often neglected my studies, and only because of some luck and skillz ^^. I finished middle school and managed to attend university. It was than that i prioritized the rest of my life over anime&manga. I still watch anime, but not as much as i used too, its now just a nice hobby to relax........
The reason I'm asking this, is because i see people say they watch anime for 10 hours a day (well, maybe they are just exaggerating ). Well i guess it depends on your age, but I don't think it is healthy in many ways ( speaking out of experience )
Like all things in life, modesty is the key........

I don't think hikkimori is the right term, you should have said otaku. Hikkimori are people who are afraid of other human contact, that doesnt necessarily mean they shun it to watch anime. I usually watch or read 2 or 3 hrs of manga and anime a day along with another few hours of videogames, but that's only if im not overloaded with school work.

hmmm...on vacation I watch anime/manga for almost 16 hrs with the occasional rest the eyes after every hour...
studies? I don't really study much since I take in all the info needed from listening to the teacher so unless it's advanced studying for a test that wasn't discussed yet or homework, I never study...even on exams, and so I wonder how I even got to where I am now (third year college student)...
I wouldn't say I was smart either because my grades are only on average around 78-86/100 every time since I was in elementary...so on school days, somewhere around 4-6 hrs...but since the start of my third year, I haven't been reading/watching much since projects are coming in all the time that I no longer have the time...I even had to work on projects during Christmas break and other holidays

I watch around 2 hours or so but not everyday. That will probably be a bit more if I don't have anything to do and depending on the anime im watching. If I remember correctly, i finished FMP: TSR in a day, total of around 6 hours. My maximum is for Basilisk, around 12 hours.

I don't watch that much any more. I used to watch about 6-7 hours a day too, but now just follow the series that are airing and caught my interest, so about 3-4 hours a week max. I still consider myself an otaku, hell I went to Comiket over Christmas break, but I do other things now too.

why did you go from middle school to university? i think you skipped high school

but personally, i don't watch anime(unless you count avatar or the occasional ova) but i used to spend maybe 2 hours a day reading manga. that was during my rom/com faze, how they end every freaking chapter with a cliffhanger. now I'm down to maybe 4 or five hours a week

If you say you have an addiction this is already bad by itself...
Every type of addiction is bad, it is made a top priorety so nothing else matters..

There isn't something as a "bad/good" addiction, they are all bad!
Anime/manga addiction is also bad>.<

doesn't really matter how much you watch/read as long as it doesn't effect the other stuff in your life...

Monkey Bump~! (=O*-*)=O

I don't think so. ._.

But I just spent the whole day yesterday watching anime, re-watched Ruroni Kenshin, Samurai Champloo and Samurai 7. O_O

Didn't even sleep. But that's the most hours I've ever spent watching anime. Other than that not really. I guess during vacation but it never adds up to more than 6 hours~

I remember I used to watch anime up to 8 hours straight. Not much of an accomplishment compared to some people here~

Now, I don't watch anime very often anymore. I get bored everytime. I can't even last 10 minutes, no matter which series it is. : (

Not really.

Possibly, but since there are worse things that one could be doing during that time, it's not all that bad. If that person can still be a functional human being, then I don't see the harm. Most people watch television for that long daily without even realizing it, so this is no different.

When I was still I middle school and Naruto was not known yet too much in America I use to watch at least 10 hours. But, around my freshmen year of high school maybe.....1 hour and now even less than that I usually just watch one anime and I seem to barely find time to actually start a new series of manga.
But, over summer (not this summer damn you summer school) I usually get caught up with some manga like if I am really behind in Gantz or something. Actually during the summer this is my schedule:

  1. Wake Up
    2.Turn on my laptop
  2. Download anime I never heard of
  3. Read manga while it is downloading on onemanga
  4. Watch it
  5. Take a break and watch the Maury show
  6. Read more manga and download more anime until I have the whole series and just watch the episodes at night.

I'm not an Otaku, and I don't see how being a "Hikikomori" is related to having an addiction, in this case an Anime addiction. There's a difference between them. I don't watch Anime everyday, and when I do, it's usually in spurts. Right now I'm watching Speed Grapher. I think I've watched 4 Episodes of it today...Well, yesterday. That's about 90 minutes, so it's not very long. I'm on Episode 14, and I discovered it 2-3 days ago. I probably would have been done by now, if I hadn't been busy with other things ^^;;

When I find a new Anime to watch, I almost always watch it straight through (I don't watch Anime still airing). Which is generally more than 8 hours. But recently I've been finding duds (ひぐらしのなく頃に), so I will quit a few episodes in, but even though Speed Grapher has been great so far, and I know I'll finish it soon, I'm not speeding through it like I used to...

I also will rewatch Anime I'm comfortable with while eating or when I'm bored, quit anywhere from 30-60 minutes in.

If you take Hours Watching Anime + Hours Sleeping, you get:
10(Hours Watching Anime) + 10(Hours Sleeping) = 20/24
10(Hours Watching Anime) + 08(Hours Sleeping) = 18/24
10(Hours Watching Anime) + 06(Hours Sleeping) = 16/24

That leaves a 4-8 hour window to do other activities.
For me, I sleep about 10 hours. If I were to watch Anime for 10 hours, I'd only have 4 hours to do everything else. >.< You can only procrastinate for so long.

Point: Yes, it is a very bad addiction. Just like any other. Especially if you're blowing money to high-heaven on it. Not to mention you're staring at a screen for hours (which I do, ack! 😲 ) Back up a few inches.

Ahh. I'm guilty of doing all nighters on anime.

I don't watch much of it, but when I decide I want to watch one, I can't stop watching it until it's finished 🤣 I managed to watch both Code Geass and R2 in a week because I was watching them until like, 1 - 2am in the morning 🤣

But yeah, any sort of addiction that takes over more important things (like studies cough ) is bad.

You have hikikomori defined totally wrong (take it from someone who has been there).

It's social and physical isolation, an acute fear of being in the real world. Most find a hobby which does not require them to face reality: A manga addiction, for instance.

I don't spend time with anime as often as manga. But I'm completely obsessed with the latter because it was like a stand-in drug for a very long time.

But when I get into an anime series, I polish off at least eight episodes a day until it is finished.
