In related news, it looks like the Akira film is having further trouble getting off the ground;

Hard to say, I don't like hollywood adaptation of foreign anime, but well I still enjoyed (relatively) the American live-action adaption of comics (batman, tron, iron man, thor, etc..) even though I've never follow the comic itself. I guess if you followed the original, you'd be more biased (positively or negatively) toward the live-action. My issue with Hollywood adaption of foreign anime is too much localization and butchered story.

I picked "Don't care" as my closest answer since I don't watch live-action Hollywood anime 🤣

but to one person you may be the world."

(Even though the quote above is from Hamlet, I first saw it in a Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer on YouTube ^o^)

I don't care.
In all likelihood, I won't be watching them anyhow.

I think Priest fits the category (although it's based on manhwa). It was released recently in 3D. Has anyone seen it?
I personally enjoyed watching all adaptations of Marvel comics (but that might be only because I love the superhero theme ;]). As for manga/anime... the only one I can think of are DB and Transformers. The rest are movies based on games. DB was a total failure and I wasn't sure if I should lough or cry when I was watching it. On the other hand, Transformers were done nicely. I sure hope to see high quality movie based on anime done like they do the Marvel adaptations.
I also remember a movie with Mark Dacascos based on Crying Freeman. It's been years since I saw it but as far as I remember I liked the movie a lot!

No matter what Hollywood does, they can never get it right.
Honestly, I think it would be a lot better if it was simply animated, which I know would fare much better than being adapted as a live-action film.
But to simply answer the question, I choose "They ruin the series no matter what!" and that seems to be the fact.
See ya!

If culture can't be translated well into movies, will it be possible to consider shooting a film say in Japan with all Japanese casts but Hollywood-dominated behind-the-scene crew (read: director, producer, etc)? Will this work? I know chance that it will happen is infinitesimal but just want to know what you guys think.
Help! I'm looking for... manga with dangerous guys http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=39874&page=1#post594033

Lol, I didn't know Priest was a manhwa, all the trailers said was "graphic novel." Hahaha.
Apparently Priest is set in in the old west, so I think it's kind of in a gray area... The wild west is kind of one of the things that Hollywood has always done best, and it's not like anything would be stolen from the content culturally because of that.
As far as Hollywood being behind it, I don't really care. All film crews are different, writers have different styles, producers have different preferences, and directors have different techniques. If you have the right combination, anything can be adapted successfully.
Not that I have seen any adaptions from manga.

'Hollywood' adaptations of anime and/or manga don't work, and will never work (for those familiar with the original work especially) for the same reasons Japanese adaptations of western work doesn't work (Think of the recent Marvel/DC infection of the Anime world).
Sure, if you are completely (or nearly) unfamiliar with Anime and Japanese movies, an American adaptation - of for example Nodame Cantabile - would probably work (depending on how well expressions/jokes/culture is translated)... But I don't believe it will ever be on the same level or even better than the original.

Aren't nearly all Hollywood movies pretty much complete animations these days? With maybe only 10-20% 'real' footage (and even that digitally enhanced beyond all recognition).
