I buy manga (ive remained faithful to the same store for years, the employees were one of the first to introduce me to manga), but I also read alot of scanlations too

I usually don't have any money to buy manga...

I have at least 120 volumes of manga in my current collection. There are also older manga that I don't keep on my shelves anymore (my first manga, SailorMoon, and some other odds and ends from when I was just starting to read manga) and 15 volumes of Japanese manga that I was intrigued by and figured would never be released in the US.

I don't buy much else, and I do have a job, so I guess I'm one of the lucky few who can afford my manga reading habits. I definitely prefer a book to a computer image. If all the series I liked were licensed, there's no way I could keep up... but until that happens, I'll keep buying the manga I like! There are about 7-10 licensed series I'm currently following (though somehow it seemed like more before I counted them).

KennEH!, if you only like un-edited manga, does that mean you read it in Japanese? You could buy the Japanese releases, if that's the case. Japanese manga is cheap! (and YesAsia offers free shipping, even if it is slow)

If I find a good series or something that looks interesting I buy it. Thankfully I work full time and have the money to occasionally go hog wild as a gift to myself. I have recently been buying a lot and will continue to buy. I love having it in my hands and seeing it on the bookshelf. Since I came late to manga I don't have 100s but I have a nice collection so far.

These days, I download first, and if I really like the series, then I'll buy it.

Way before scanlations ever existed and the era of lots of licensed manga..., there were manga translations on the internet (i.e. sites like "Maybe Tomorrow" which doesn't exist anymore). So, if I was interested in a particular manga story because of those translations, I would go to my local Kinokuniya and buy the manga. Hence, it was bought at Japanese market price meaning around 6 USD equivalent (not inc. tax). Also, at that time Viz's licensed manga costed much higher than it does now.

So, I got manga like Cardcaptor Sakura in Japanese way before they were picked up by Tokyo Pop. But I was also still buying licensed manga at the same time. When I go to Taiwan to visit my grandparents, I would also buy manga (in Mandarin and Japanese) there since it's cheaper. But now, it's 2008. A lot more manga are getting licensed so I'm starting to buy more manga in English, but I still read off scanlations/translations for any manga not picked up.

I only buy the manga that I really am interested in the story (regardless of the language except, I can't read/speak Mandarin) so I can try to save money that way. Book-off helps a little, but they're limited in English manga.

There was one manga volume that I bought that I regret of buying, but...sighs it serves as a reminder. Now, I can read kana and some kanji so I can try to translate some of the manga that I own in Japanese. 🤨 (And yes, I'm also going to try to scanlate one series on my own in the future... ^__^; If only they arrive sooner from Ebay. They're out of print manga you see....)

I don't buy manga. I really want to but I'm kinda reluctant because of the horror stories of censorship. Also I'm poor.

Nope, i either read scanlations or just go to Borders or B&N to get my manga fix. Normally, the scanlations are way in advance compared to the english manga, but I was surprise to find W-Juliet completed at Borders while scans are up to volume 12.

I spend about $100 on manga a month these days, a number that just keeps growing (unlike my income, sadly). I started buying it instead of just downloading this summer because I was going camping and couldn't bear the thought of two weeks without my beloved series, and after that...well, it's just like with regular books. My parents stopped buying them for me since I read them too quickly and I got used to using the library, but actually owning them is just so much better! So now I buy Skip Beat, Special A and Tail of the Moon every other month, plus some titles that come out less frequently, and Shonen Jump and Shojo Beat every month. Plus I've been going over series that I liked a lot and buying them - my current project is getting all of Monster, to be followed by Whistle! I currently have around 50 volumes of it 😕 ...I think...I don't really know since I have so much leant out to my friends.
But I'm friends with my school librarian and she always asks my advice and usually follows it, so that helps reduce what I buy too.

I buy the mangas that I believe is "my favorites" to support the creators.

I know that the creators doesn't really earn "anything" from it (well, they do, but it's not much). However it supports the growth of manga and acceptence overseas (I believe); so as thus, I keep on buying ;D
