They are gross... i mean, i guess the whole idea comes from the visual kei movement in music? Pleae correct me on that, I'm just hypthosizing. You know all those gaudy jrockers in their overly flamboyant clothing and makeup? (ex. Mana and Gackt, just to name a few)

hmm, if you think about it, MOST shonen main characters would be one if they get a korean haircut, went to beauty salon every 3 days, and sacrifice all bodily muscle and fat they have. if they weren't so damn "shiny" in every damn series, they'd be more tolerable.

thats why i read manga b/c the guys are hecka gorgeous. i know it sounds shallow but if manga had no bishies i would never ever read manga. i mean c'mon. if the art sucks then i kinda lose intrest even if it does have a good story line. thats what books are for. duh.

I'm someone who reads anything from shounen to seinen, shoujo to jousei and even lesbian stuff, so... eh, this stuff doesn't bother me at all.
Besides, no... I don't think all of it comes from the visual kei movement but that the female readers tend to identify themselves through the male characters at times, hence the androgynous looks of the male characters. Much like how you had female characters who looked like males in the 70s to 80s: Rose of Versailles, eh... and a lot of other shoujo titles. So, I see it more as a shift in the way shoujo manga are drawn, that's all.

I'm honestly a sucker for romance manga/animes where the main female character has some sort of orginal plot, unfortunately there's usually a bishie as well.
