Did the US ever help the philippines? When Marcos had his reign of dictatorship, the US went there and saved him! Then they planted him safely in Hawaii. Did the filipino people ever get justice?! Not only the Philippines, but the US never really helps the african nations either. We only helped Israel, and a few other countries.

And yes, all history is written by the victor...any history teacher will tell you that. Only a few historians in this world will actually write the unbiased truth.

and yes....we are xenophobic. we pretend that we accept other cultures. say "philippines" or "algeria" and people are like "where's that?" we are an ignorant and unfortunate culture.

Yes, the US is bad in many ways, but still not as bad as Imperial Japan. There's really no room for argument.

Any other events aren't related to the topic for logical analysis. We are talking about the situation during WWII, not some other times. Sure, you can dig up any dirt from any country by looking at the time line. But you can't deny that at some point in history, one country acted heroically. It's like people. A person may do wrong in his/her life, but sometimes that person will be a hero.

True, U.S. is responsible partially, they didn't handle the end result of WWI very well and should've stopped Germany and Japan earlier. Evil only prevails because people let it prevail.

Not that I'm saying any country is evil....

If the US weren't there, most of Asia would have become part of Japan. And it is also likely that most of Europe would be part of Germany as well. Sometimes it takes an evil to destroy a greater evil.

yeah...even if that is so, we could've used alternative methods to stop Japan. Bombing Japan twice isn't what i call justice.

wars cause nations on both sides to do horrible things

America wanted an unquestionable stop to the war and the atomic bombs achieved that

If justice worked the way I think you think, then there wouldn't be any order in the world. People would commit all sorts of serious crimes without expecting much retribution. And what about the tens of millions that died at the hands of Imperial Japan? Are you telling us we should just forget about them? That's just too sad....

What are you talking about? What the U.S. did to the Japanese, was wrong; and so were the acts of Japan towards everyone else. Why can't we agree that the war shouldn't have happened and that all the countries were at fault?

I'm not saying that we shouldn't have stopped the japanese, i just implied that we shouldn't have used ATOMIC bombs on two of the holiest cities in Japan. Why couldn't we just destroy the soldiers and their weapons...why did we have to kill civilians? What if they did the same to us? (and no...Pearl Harbor doesn't count)

Perhaps, but its not hard to relocate soldiers and weapons, they could always hide in the cities if they wanted to. The atomic bombs were a way of saying "we can ruin your entire country anytime we wish", and bombing soldiers and weapons won't have nearly the effect of bombing cities with tons of civilians (even though its wrong).

Also, the Japanese at the time were pretty much brainwashed, they can draft tons of civilians into soldiers anytime they wished. Simply because of nationalism.

Wow...that sounds familiar to other countries...don't you think?

The thing is, the people of Japan had a rather extreme sense of nationalism compared to other countries. Probably due to their culture, many of them would rather fight to the death than surrender, and this includes civilians.
