They have been trying to camouflage or cover some (horrible) aspects of their past. Though, it's not only Japan that's huilty of such things.

yeah we've done some pretty f*cked up stuff. But every country has.

And responding to the quote: See Post WWI Germany, that was some reconstruction we did, putting the entire nation into poverty and the like. Just beautiful. note sarcasm

Reminds me of a German high-school history textbook that said "In September 1939, Poland invaded Germany and that's how World War II started". Being from the so called "invading" country, I felt rather offended, thankfully the mistake was corrected and apology was given so it's an old story now.

It takes some character to admit that you did something wrong. Covering facts about it is like killing those people yet again or acknowledging that those actions were completely fine and justified. In other words, those people collaborate with the masterminds of those crimes.

Either they are incredibly stupid and really believe what they are saying or have absolutely no shame at all.

Pearl harbor didnt have much to do with oil at all we embargoed japan just like we did to germany yet germany didnt do a cowardly sneak attack on us. Japan wanted to rule the world and they worshipped their emperor as a living god oil had nothing to do with their plans.

Yeah it was a "sneak" attack...did you read the previous posts?

Btw now that we bombed them they "worship" us, and b/c of that we re-wrote their constitution; and now they have no army protecting them. yeah...that's sooo fair -_-

So they committed all those crimes; my mom's side of the family is filipino, and they have no problem with the japanese...they look forward. just because one person wanted to blow someone up or take over a country shouldn't mean that all citizens should be persecuted ><

everyone thinks the biggest sneak attack with japan was pearl harbor... but thats false, the biggest is korea.... they sent spies, and assasins to eliminate the queen and her children..... the children was burned alive, and the queen and the maid workers were gang raped by the imperial soldiers, and than exucuted.... thats where korea lost power during that time.... and thats where the massacre begin, starting from korea..... korea suffered alot more than china, since china only had a certain region attacked, unlike korea, where the entire nation was influenced by japan during that time..... japan today lies that korea asked japan to help assasin their queen because she was a menace and crazy, something like one of those obvious lies....

forgot to mention, 1 big reason korea hates japan, is because 1 of their MONEY BILLS has the face of 1 of their heroes during world war II, and japan has the people THAT KILLED THOSE KOREAN HEROES in THEIR MONEY BILLS.... thats a fact... it offends them, that japan still calls them heroes

and no "mizuiromegami" , youre wrong about 1 person wanting to make this action in japan, though it was communism with a single ruler , there still were people under him that advised and long thought this plan out..... you cant say it EVEN THE IMPERIAL SOLDIERS were FORCED TO RAPE the korean women and use men as human shields during the war and most definitely the HUMAN EXPERIMENTS, obviously they enjoyed it and was curious enough to go that far with their bio technology....those were just the services and their free authority given to them.... they werent exactly patriots, they were more of group of people who were power hungry man who also needed to have unwilling sexual acts..... these are all facts....

but than again this is just korean's point of views.... though i dont call it a COINCIDENCE, that all nations including korea, china, taiwan, india, phillipine, USA, and other democrat countries hates japan... like wen a groups of people in school hates this 1 kid,,, does that mean the majority is wrong? no !! it means theres something wrong with that 1 kid ( japan)..... you see japan THINKS america loves them, but i disagree, america loves japan's money ( coming from sony, honda, nintendo, konami, anime, and other worldly contributes ), either than that they have no use of the peoples...

these are all facts, in my opinion... feel free to debate... but i think all democrat nations today are going into the right road/path including germany, except japan, they still consider supremacy and ignorance, considering they are still xenophobic, shows they have a lack of wising up, and leaving who they were behind...

Fact: In the WWII ALL and I mean ALL the countries involved were EVIL (look for what I consider Evil in the "Good and Evil" thread) none were Hero's, none did it because it was right, is was Greed vs GREED nothing more and nothing else.

That would be an assertion, not a fact. Not that I have any delusions about the Allied powers being good, but to say that there was no difference between the two sides is a bit silly. Compare two shades of gray and you can generally pick out the darker one. Every allied power had practiced imperialism, but the kind practiced by the Japanese and Germans was of a far more heinous, brutal kind than even the bloodiest regime in any British or French colony. And as it turned out, the Germans were bent on the complete eradication of several groups of people. The Allies were quite clearly less evil than the Axis powers, judged by your considerations or mine.

O.o I said Greed vs GREED >_> Capital Greed is darker and more "evil" than the other. 😎

and there is no apology that can fix the past, I mean the Euro empires obliterated the Native Americans (Native Americans in North America were hardly a civilization) but the empires in South America were completely obliterated and those did had a chance to develop amazing things.

Anyway... the things done in the past can't be fixed, but at least we should remember them so we don't repeat the same mistakes.

This a very weird topic, someone complains Japan rewrites history and then defends a unreal history, trying to say that the use of nuclear bombs was clearly justified. Humans are all insane.

Actually, you could make the argument that it was justified. The alternative was a full-scale invasion of mainland Japan along with the Soviets, which was projected to cost, putting American and Soviet casualties completely aside, millions of Japanese lives - some estimates projected 50-75% of the Japanese population being dead by the end of the whole affair. Japan refused to unconditionally surrender, and gave every indication that they would use their own civilians to wage guerilla warfare (they were already doing things like using students as kamikaze soldiers). Japan's capacity as a military power had to be eliminated, leaving them alone wasn't an option. It was either the bomb or a mainland invasion. And of course there were other factors, like us wanting to show off the power of the bomb, and not wanting the Soviets to have a stake in whatever was left of Japan, but the fact remains that the decision to use the bomb, in the long run, saved Japanese lives when compared with the only viable alternative.

so japanese people thats wondering why america doesnt apologize for the hiroshima and nagasaki bombing,

Apologize? We rebuilt their country, essentially making it into what it is today. Who else have we done that for, so successfully? I'd say that's worth far more than any token political gesture.

Correction: They rebuild their own country, USA only lent the money. Do you ever wonder why japanese die from overwork, even today?

Which is still more than the US was obligated to do, considering Japan was the clear aggressor. If "rebuilt their country" doesn't suit you, how about "provided them with the means and, to an extent, the business models needed to rebuild their country while making sure at the end it was a democratic (constitutional monarchy) society rather than a military oligarchy" ? The Japan that exists today is an American product.

Agreed, more or less.

obviously you dont know history for jack sh*t.... apparently youre statement comes from a biased point of view limited to only japan..... and defending an unreal history? ok fine, what evidence do you have that defends japan's history to be more accurate and not full of shit??

i admit my statement is pointed against japan, but it isnt biased, because im picking up the common views from the following countries, including america, germany, korea, china, india, and phillipines.....

to put it simple, if everyone thinks youre a freak in school, than you are a freak.... the winner's voice will always be louder, in japan's case, they were both winners and losers in the world war II, and everyone except japan thought their reasons for waging war was unreasonable.... why cant they just admit that they commited some war crimes, any of it, rather than pointing out the things other countries did to them?

I have to agree with bluegreenangel. Obviously changing one's history to avoid shame will only make victim countries more angry. The best thing to do is ask for forgiveness by admitting that one did horrible things in the past. The use of the A-Bomb ended the war more quickly. In the long run, more causalities were prevented. Even though A-Bomb drop is not justified under any reason. We'll just have to go on with our lives. Forgiving those that wronged us in the past, but never to forget the things they did.

Take it easy, I don't mean to defend Japan, but I don't think USA is the saint some people here are defending. The problem is that I get pissed off easily when some americans say their country saved everybody during WWII. The truth is the allied forces (all of then) saved the day. Russia did a very important job breaking down the german army before Day D, some say (I agree) it was the turning point in the war.

What I was condenming was people saying the bombs were an act of mercy, the best solution was to vaporize civilians. I think it was just to save money and the lifes of American soldiers. I think there could be a better solution at the time, but again, it was war, not somekind of plaything.

...but to say it was an act of god, a fair revenge, it is a bit much.

BTW, I agree that Japan rewrites history and I don't like totalitarism.

So Japan did a lot of crap.....so what, i will always think that the US is the worst....

I've already contended that, when compared with the only viable alternative, that being a full-scale invasion of the Japanese mainland, vaporizing civilians was indeed an act of mercy.

If anyone's tried to portray the US as "saints", I must have missed their post. Rest assured that as an American, I've no "city on a hill" delusions about American altruism, goodness, or any such thing. The fact that the decision to use the bomb was made more out of a desire to save American lives, demonstrate US power, and prevent the Soviets from gaining a foothold in Japan than out of any consideration for the Japanese doesn't change the fact that the bomb, evil as it was, was the decidedly lesser of two evils. The fact is, Japan got off easy.

The most xenophobic country in the world? Funny, I could have sworn we were easily one of, if not the most diverse country in the world, with the possible exception of Brazil. Obviously many in this country are neither tolerant or accepting of other cultures or peoples, but take almost any culture, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a country (excluding, obviously, countries in which said culture is part of the mainstream) more accepting of it than the US. We have damn near everything and everyone here. Personally, I think that's a great thing.

Yeah, there's racism and xenophobia, and it sucks. I'm black; we've only been catching that shit here for about the last 400 years, give or take. But I'd take slave trade-era America over Nazi Germany or Tojo's Japan any day. At least I'd have a chance to survive living in the former, as opposed to ending up as someone's lampshade or taxidermy project.

Note that none of this is to deny or gloss over America's crimes. Generally, however, the US will at least admit to its historical wrongdoings, unlike Japan.

Quote from MizuiroMegami

So Japan did a lot of crap.....so what, i will always think that the US is the worst...

Well, you're welcome to your opinion, however silly it may be.

History is told through the eyes of the victor. I'm sure that no country has told each and every peice of history unmodified. If the Nazis had won, all of us today would believe that America was the bad guy, because thats what we would have been taught. I know its horrible, but that's just how it is, and I don't think it will be changing anytime soon. None of us could know for sure unless we were physically there.

ehhh.....that still doesn't erase war crimes.........Besides, the real story is actually seen from the eyes of the victim countries and some honest Japanese field reporters. As far as I know from history, U.S. was definitely the good guys anyway you look at it.
