Doesn't even have to be over the topic of lolicon. Like bully_jesus said, this is all piracy...Crack down on the illegal activities on the internet, eh? Death of us all...

It's funny because it isn't a controversial topic.
The site will not go down because we list loli hentai occasionally. There aren't a lot of things I would bet my life on, and it would be stupid to do so on this topic, but if I had to, I would.
I admit i don't have reliable knowledge, but i don't think thats necesarily the case. A 3D computergenerated childporn is illegal, so would 2D images, and from there it is just a spitting distance to drawn pictures.
I did say drawned characters. Which is what this site is for. Comics.

That is what i was talking about, read the last line.

now that is true. However, lilchoconut does have a point. Nobody really cares much about scanslating. Most people don't care about copyright laws a lot.
Here in Germany however, as soon as some pedophile case becomes big, everybody starts blaming and accusing everybody. I am sure things aren't that different elsewhere. If some bible swinging or whoever crusader says that childporn is being distribuated by manga groups online and that mister child rapist had downloaded loliconporn, it could just happen that suddenly some goverment stars pointing fingers at the scanslating community.
Probability of this happening, very low. But stil possible. Wierder things have happend. Remember all the people claiming Marilyn Manson was responsible for turning teenagers into killers?

I think this is a difficult subject, because one of the important rights of the western is the freedom of speech and opinion and thought and the pursuit of happiness (this may sound macaber concerning lolicon/child porn but it may be true for certain people). As long as nobody is harmed. And with drawn pictures like lolicon, nobody is harmed in contrast to childporn with living people. That would however change if there was empirical, reliable evidence e.g. that a the percentage of people who abuse children is higher among the lolicon-readers. But then there would be the question whether lolicon would cause such a behaviour or would just be a symptom of an already exsisting fault in one's caracter.
Because I don't think such evidence exists, lolicon should be legal.
But as I haven't studied international law, i ofcourse can't say anything about the actual legal status of lolicon in a country.

I think that Japan has very liberal Laws on all Sex/Porn related stuff, and a very low reported sexcrime rate.
However, one is not sure if there is not a larger unknown numer since in some ways Japanese are very uptight about admitting crimes happen.
Wierd story to provee the point. I know a girl who spent some time as a girl in a school in kuwait. She had a japanese friend there who left japan with her mother for kuwait because of the great shame she had caused her family.
Guess what she did, she smuggled alchohl into school.
That was in the 90s, and thats a really fu@ked up story. Choosing Exil before facing the shame of having a daughter that smuggled alchohl into school?

I think it should be legal based on the principle of the thing--but then again, think about gay marriage. In the U.S. at least, this is a debate that has been going on for a while now, and regardless what I think is the obvious answer (people should be able to do what they want), there are people fighting the issue with moral and/or religious arguments, trying to use law to impose their beliefs on people. So my point is, if something much more important to a lot of people such as gay marriage is so uncertain, I don't think Lolicon legality stands a chance. Relatedly, I think that it's possible that some people believe these two issues harm people mentally, and as that is a form of harm, it should still make them illegal. Honestly I don't know either way, and I haven't done any research on the topics to really state an opinion. Being part of a democratic society is not the same as being part of a free society. Majority rule can dictate a number of reasonable and well-accepted rules, but it can also reflect the changes in common opinion.
