I remember that when i was little i liked reading science magazines (it's no a book but still) one day (i was preteen ) i stumbled on a photo of a small boy with his head shopped and put on his headless body laying on the ground .......
however most people say that stuff that you don't believe is real isn't nearly as scary as something that you thing may happen to you.
for the most disturbing thing is when i was reading about UFO (i'm not talking about aliens her) phenomenon of official well documented cases it's more creeping than any horror story you may read because you can't defend yourself nor run from it

The Torture Gardens, I think. It is a novel.
But anything non-fiction (like newspapers and crime photography) are much more disturbing than anything else. RL stories bother/frighten me the most

It - Stephen King
Crybaby - forgot the author
Stephen King can make you vomit through his good horror, Stephanie Meyer can make you vomit through her horrible stories and writing style

The holy bible.
ahaha true true! I especially grossed out on the part where this guy tried to sacrifice his own son and the part where this old man's wife turned into salt and his daughter got him drunk and had sex with him and bear children.

Brothers Grimm - the real stories, not the re-narrated ones - I was a child at that time though...
In Cold Blood by Capote.

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

well I've read quite some books, including horror types, but I guess the ones that disturbed me a bit where some WWII books by Sven Hassel. I guess the reasons they disturbed me was that unlike other books those where based on real facts. 🤢

And the Ass Saw the Angel by Nick Cave. It is not a pleasant experience reading a book from the point of view of a mute boy from an incestous family who is descending into utter madness and keeps seeing what he believes to be signs from god. Most disgusting bit being when he decides to make a sort of nest for himself in a swamp where he keeps such neccesities as the remains of his stillborn twin brother and bits of his scalp. Still one of the best things ive read though

I agree with a previous poster - the newspaper. It's a grim reminder of the horrors, disasters, and atrocities that go on in the world every day.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison. Now that was truly horrifying. 😔
