Hmmm..seriously, you guys dont have any taste that extends beyond Japan? It has to be Japanese? No offense, but I was wondering about non-Japanese 3D movies here mainly but... 🙄 ..honestly, I miss the dialogues so much which wont have the humour in English, that I have to switch to International releases...Not being valiant and all that coz ur sister/brother/mother/father died and a bad guy popped up and u became a samurai hero or a robot/Gundam driver or something...something with a little day to day humour to relate to..
I'm aware I separated Western and Asian markets, because after all these are the main markets, but I didn't say Japanese movies>>everything else, or that everything Japanese should be revered.
I like soft comedies as well, it's just that I pointed out what the Western CG movie market is (severely) lacking, that's all. Drama/action CG movies are a potential left unexplored (for now), because of the idea that everything without real actors is meant to be either soft comedy, either aimed at children.

Shrek is not a soft comedy. It's actually a deep psychological drama, a young ogre hikikomori who is shunned by fairy society for his greenness and eating habits tries to find his place in the world.

i'm not being sarcastic at all, i almost cried at the end of shrek...you know, donkey and the dragon...
there sure are some very good comedies, some of the best movies i've watched recently were computer animated...
but i also agree that there's lacking, actually there isn't any action and drama...maybe because all the superhero movies that could have been CG but didn't...dunno

Well, true, and it would be hard and maybe wishful thinking to get the best of both worlds in one movie! 😀 but since the efforts have begun, we can hope for one in th next decade at least 🤨 ...lets not give up 😀

You guys have listed a lot of the ones I already like, but I don't think anyone mentioned Ghost in the Shell: Innocence

There is a sequel to Appleseed ? lol! I never heard about one. Can someone guide me where I can at least find I review.
Vexille is currently on my HDD waiting to be seen. I have too many Anime's piled up -_-" and am not able to break away from them to watch it.
@Fizzle
I felt Beowulf was pathetic. No offense to your tastes but I felt the story telling was bland at best. The CG is undoubtedly good but what good is a CG movie without good story telling unless one has to show off ones skills in CG or the technical advancement.
This reminds me of the failure of FF : Spirits within. The second largest loss in revenue after Disney's Treasure Island. This movie Made Square bankrupt which led to the merger with Enix. Voila! Now we have Square-Enix. Guess I went a little out of the topic >.< .
Well on the other hand although we can't call em CG movies but I feel the CG cut-scenes or intros of Games are second to none. ( MGS: 4 anyone ? )
I am huge fan of WarHammer 40k fan you have seen their intro then you'll understand what I meant.

Appleseed: Ex Machina was the sequel. I thought it was better all around than the first movie and it was especially better in the cg department.
ANN has reviewed it if you want to read that. If you want to see a bit of it I made a simple amv a few months ago mostly just showing some of the action sequences. [/self promotion]
I didn't think Beowulf was all that bad. It wasn't great and I wouldn't watch it again, but it was fairly entertaining. Spirit's Within too, I didn't think was as bad many people say. I think a lot of it is backlash from the fans because we were really expecting more Final Fantasy to be in the movie.
Aside from the title and maybe a few minor references, it had nothing at all to do with the franchise and it was just cashing in on the brand name. That's why Advent Children was pretty much just a big blowjob from Square to the fans. As a generic sci-fi flick Spirits Within was ok though.

Wasn't it one of those 2d animation/cg hybrid types? Like Titan: AE and Atlantis?

Yes it was but I didnt want to repeat 3D examples please!!!
I actually just watched Wall-E and since it was mentioned earlier in this thread I figured I'd post a quick opinion of it.
It was good. One of my favorite fully CG films now. Much better than most of the mediocre stuff Pixar has been pushing out the last few years. It won't convert anyone that doesn't dig that stuff to begin with, but for those that like it, I definitely recommend seeing it.
Polite bump.
I stand with my previous opinion. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is the best in its league. :] I really want to see Complete too. Hopefully I'll get the chance to do that sometime.
