Most live-action adaptions are cheesy. I watched some of the Sailor moon one and I couldn't help but laugh through the whole thing. I saw the preview of the Naruto live-adaption that's coming out soon and I seriously don't want to watch it. Too weird and cheesy. Cosplayers put those actors to shame 😀

A pretty decent live-adaption I've seen of a manga is "Hana Kimi". I tend to avoid live-adaptations and just stick to the manga or anime.

Depends on the source material.

For example, I'm absolutely thrilled about the Solanin movie that's in the works for next year, but the Mushishi flick was, well.... Let's just not talk about it.

Other good adaptations that I can think of are Sexy Voice and Robo and Nijuu Seiki Shounen.

Haven't seen any live-action adaptations that I liked. I watched Blood: The Last Vampire yesterday, and it really let me down.

I picked the third option. I have only seen quite satisfying ones, like Nodame, and have yet to see an adaptation that surpassed the original medium. Can't wait for the live action adaptation of My Girl (Sahara MIZU) though.

well i havent really seen to may but i sure head about enough of them. I picked wait till it comes out because i my like it.

But i generally think if the story is good to begin with there is a small gilimer of hope that it can be good in live action as well.

3rd option for me. especially for the upcoming [or is it out already] 20th century boys. i especially liked the manga so they better not screw it up XD personally i haven't watched too many adaptations. only 4, hana kimi, h2, death note and battle royale [i don't know which came out first for battle royale though] and they were good [i think XD]

just my 2 cents XD

Just saw Dragon Ball Evolution yesterday.
It wasn't that bad....only cause it was so easy to make fun of. My brother and I were laughing our heads of at its stupidity considering we're big fans of the anime.
But comparing it to the anime, complete crap. Not that anyone's shocked there though. But I do appreciate it for its (un)intentional comedic value.

Unless I feel that it's just something impossible to recreate coughDragonBallcough, then my default position is the "I hope they don't screw up this one" option. If they can stick close to source material (20th Century Boys) or improve upon it (like Oldboy), than I'll be pleasantly surprised. Of course, it never really helps when an adaptation just outright sucks (ex: Honey and Clover).

I'm absolutely thrilled about the Solanin movie that's in the works for next year Interesting. I'll look forward to it (though I have no idea who's in it).

I'm not saying anymore than" I hope they don't screw up this one" because the movie never be like the really thing. This also go to animes I love them, but sometimes they change things from the manga >:-(

Miyazaki Aoi is playing Meiko... she was pretty good in Eureka, but most people on the forums probably know her for her role in Nana.

The director is a music video veteran, but it's his first feature.

I think with Live-Actions they work better for shoujo rather than mangas with magic and fighting and non-real life situations.

lambchopsil, I'm Cantonese, too (a 'Lam', no less hahaha)! Yeah, that Initial D movie was surprisingly good and gave me hope for all live-action adaptations in general, but for the most part they're not worth my time, even with production values and star-studded casts.

Case in point: I happened to be in Japan when the Dragonball Evolution movie was announced - since it had Chow Yun Fat and a white Goku I just thought, "Forbidden Kingdom 2.0" or something. Me and the movie critics would certainly hate it, but maybe fans would see the silver lining. Then I heard Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle star/director to non-Cantonese viewers) of all people was producing it, and so I decided to give it a shot. Turns out all he really did was fund the production, and Evolution turned out to be an utter crapfest as expected.
