Quote from Razril
I think I started reading around 8-9 years ago. Which is probably why I'm all burned out right now. XD
Yep, I've read them all, I've seen all the cliches, and I've gotten tired of most of 'em by now. I started reading manga back when MangaProject was still alive and only had less than 5 titles active. I read Kimagure Orange Road and Video Girl Ai. They were the popular ones at that time. 🙂 At that time MangaProject was the only group who had direct downloads (though only for recent releases). All other groups released via IRC, which I didn't know how to use back then. Scanlations were special then. They were all high quality. No one did it for the fame, and there were no project-stealing or speedscans. Ahhhh...the good 'ol days. 😀
I started around 7 years ago but I can't remember what I first read. Ah, well~
You're right. The groups were all friendly, quality was great and scanlations were special. When I came across the first groups I was really amazed that ppl sacrificed their free time to scanlate 😃 And now I'm also one of them 🤣

I have only been reading one maybe two years 😔 Why didn't anyone tell me about them sooner? >:-( But the point is, I loved them at first sight and still read them to this day 😃

Around 2002-2003 I guess; that's around when I "discovered" manga and went searching online for more. 😃
Took me a while to read much since I was on dialup & didn't know how to use torrents or irc [oh the agony of waiting 30 minutes for a download to finish, only to get disconnected at 95% and have to start over... (T_T) ].
I have no idea what the first scanlated series I read was, probably HanaKimi or W Juliet or something like that, but I really don't know.

7+ years, apparently. I feel kinda old, reading everyone's comments (except Razril and icassop, who have been reading for as long as me or longer!). I hadn't realized it was that long though! I discovered scanlations by Toriyama's World during highschool (sometime in 2001, I'm guessing from TW's release dates), being at the time a big fan of DBZ and therefore anything else created by the same mangaka's hand. I didn't become a serious manga/scanlation-addict till later, maybe 2004 or so when I'd become more of a shoujo-manga fan and came across the legendary ShoujoMagic group, who by that time had accumulated more manga releases than I could even begin to imagine reading. Ah, it was bliss.
It feels like forever but it's only been a little more than a year for me. 😀

around 2004 for me, so ~3-4 years. I was following the U.S. releases for Naruto and came across a raw scan of Gaara, Temari, and Shikamaru post-timeskip and realized how far back the American releases were. I went scouring the internet for more and came across Naruto scanlations. It kind of just snowballed from there.

I only started reading them in February of 2008.
I started reading manga in 05 but didnt start reading online until 06 and the first scanlated piece was Anuki, I know such a weird thing to start off with, but i enjoyed it and moved onto others, but I only recently joined this site, since I only found it recently....it helps a lot 😀

I was aware of them since around late 2002 but I only started really reading in late '04. Before that, I was more into anime. Nowadays though, I just don't have the patience to sit through most thirty minute episodes, much less a 26 episode series. Reading manga is so much more efficient.

I started reading scanlations about 7-8 years ago, and I was reading manga (Sailor Moon <3) even before that. I don't even remember what my first scanlations were exactly (some shoujo, maybe GALS), but the groups I remember following at the time were Certhy, MangaProject and Sakura-Crisis, all of which are now inactive.
This kind of makes me feel old 😐 but I prefer to think that I started young 😃
