I've got a friend who's looking for good shounen ai / yaoi to read.
to give you some idea of what she likes: she's reading Loveless and absolutely LOVES it, her favorite character in Hana Kimi is Umeda, and she loves Death Note (and is a Light x L shipper). =D

Ki mama ni Tanteigyou A "detective" one-shot involving finding a cat..
Kamakiri Psychological, sort of slow, but really interesting.
Mamiya Seitai Ningyouten Set around a "Doll House" where the character sells dolls that appear human.
Kokoro Kikai Simple story about school boys that feel empty. Not nearly as depressing as it sounds. (Yumeka Sumomo)

These aren't very graphic.. I don't want to shock your friend. D: Uh. I don't know that these are very good matches to your friend's tastes..

Anything by Yumeka Sumomo is A+, and she's got two (I think?) books licensed. Most are Shounen-ai, but some are shoujo and they're all amazing, sort of slice-of-life type of thing.

The rest have some sex/sexual content.

I have to say that this title is prob my Fav. It's cute and hilarious. and you can see the growth of the mangaka as you read from vol to vol. I've actually reread this manga from beginning to end 3 times which is something that I dont do much so I really recommend this (of course thats from my own personal stand point)

Have your friend tried gravitation or fake? these were prob the first shonen ai mangas that got licensed in the US.
