Hmmm.
The animated category award goes to "anything by Monty Oum." People give him far too fucking much credit as an animator, where he isn't actually god tier or anything. His actual talent is in pretty much everything else that goes into making his little animations. Stuff like fitting the action to the music, angles of "camera", choreography and the sense of flowing, continous fights etc. Of what I've seen from him 'till now, I'd say either the RWBY trailer "Red" or Dead Fantasy 2 take the cake. Or maybe Icarus...
Film - I'm more particular for cool swordplay and the like, instead of ass-huge war scenes. Thus, I award this as split to Shanghai Knights and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for good showing of dual-wielding.
Books - Wheel of time. Dumai's wells. If you've read it, you know what I'm talking about.
IRL - Nothing comes to mind. I've read enough about WW II and more recent engagements, as well realities of medieval warfare to dismiss them from having even the potential of being "cool." Some individuals have been truly heroic and done some incredible stuff, but anything that is actually "noteworthy" for the history books has been utter and complete hell at least for one of the sides, not to mention the happless civilians caught in the middle.
Edit: I almost forgot.
Manga - Mahou Sensei Negima. Magic World Arc - Negi VS Jack Rakan. Best shounen duel I've laid eyes on.

A war between Planet Vegeta and Planet Kyrpton! Idk if that's a good match though since their planets would just get blown up?

if i am not mistaken
planet krypton has a red sun
in other words
kryptonians have no special power
that would lead to the saiyajins only need sending a child or 2 to take care of the planet
or 1 grown up[i dont remember how it works or if kryptons even have a moon]
i find it funny that ppl talk about D day as something great for the "allied"
it was a last desperate try from the allies under "england" and US to try and grab some controle before soviet had taken the whole of europe
it was not a heroic act to stop the germans
the soviets had allready broken the german warmachine
they just swooped in to grab some glory by letting young dumb americans get slaughtered on the beaches for absouloutly nothing
i dont like war
best fight

Hmm, I wanted to say the three kingdoms (a.k.a.Battle of Red Cliffs), but I've never actually study/ read the real history. My knowledge about the battle only came from some TV series, movie (Red Cliff), and some novel, which has been altered, so;
Movie: Red Cliff

Pelennor fields from Lord of the rings
any other from lord of the rings, especially if Sam is included.
pirates of the carabbien had good ones too.
gosh, I can't recall anything...
animated:
into the inferno episode from Avatar the last airbender
mulan: burrying huns under snow+mulan vs. that hun, I can't spell it.
a very short one from Megamind
Toothless vs. red giant in How to train your dragon
Asuka vs. eva series in neon genesis evangelion movie
from the end of Furi Kuri (not really a battle though)
in School rumble the gun fight in earlier volumes
ps: you inspired me, this needs more research. the epic battles are the best thing in a battle thingy.
if there is an option between "to do" and "not to do", I will always choose the latter.
"what kind of crazy, twisted conclusion is that...?" - banana bread no puding
