How will you explain sentencing an innocent man to death when later on it is found out he did not commit the criminal acts you charged him with? It does happen and that's why the death sentence is no longer in the UK because of such incidences and of course other things. Also in some rape and murder cases the person can be mentally challenged to do these acts and are unaware of the seriousness behind what they are doing. If you really want to stop wasting tax payer money stop spending loads on crappy football player and celebrities with no talent.

I think this thread can only be made fun of because politically none of you would have a clue as to what you're doing. And that goes for me also hence my last stupid post.

I would establish a dictatorship, then start making decisions on the long term, not just 4 years. I see so many dumb things done, money being thrown away, just to show people that they are actually doing something. But long term plans don't have an immediate effect. Would also completely get rid of out (national) debt. And higher our Levee's (correct word? correct grammar?) because of rising sea levels, Would actually not do very much other things because I don't know much, so the rest would be done by professors of our universities, that would unite in something like a senate. Though my word would still overrule them, if I ever would completely disagree with them.

Also since I'm Dutch I have to deal with the European Union. This was not taken into account. (The European Union doesn't like dictatorships much)

i'd remove the ban on gay marriage federally. of course i would do other stuff, but that is what first comes to mind when i see this question. 😛

Removing some ban doesn't really help you know. You'd first need to change the mindset of many people (or those with power over people).
Making something legal doesn't necessarily make it an available option for the masses. If say religion still rules the streets and peoples minds.

Still, I wouldn't legalize gay marriage, I would try to get rid of marriage altogether.
If two people love each other they don't need to be married to proof it, (in origin marriage was just a tool to denote possession). If you can't trust your partner without marriage, then just don't plan anything long term.

I'd also love to outlaw organized religion (not faith, just religion)... But that would never work.

Ah well, Utopia... the one thing we all strife for whilst knowing it can never be reached.

I would create a dictatorship but leave democracy for lower federal positions, part of the senate, and provincial positions. After that I would boost military spending and boost the taxes for large businesses and make universal tax system that taxes everyone on their income levels without tax breaks. I would then look to expand my country's borders. I would strength research on new energy sources and heavily subsidize all education. I would then begin a state funded research into stem cells and forbid protests by fanatic religious groups.
I would also stabilize government by having an easy succession process in place to replace me.
