If I were to take over America today....we would be conquered by other powers next week at the latest.

In other words, we'd be screwed

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

i'd remove the ban on gay marriage federally. of course i would do other stuff, but that is what first comes to mind when i see this question. 😛

Removing some ban doesn't really help you know. You'd first need to change the mindset of many people (or those with power over people).
Making something legal doesn't necessarily make it an available option for the masses. If say religion still rules the streets and peoples minds.

Still, I wouldn't legalize gay marriage, I would try to get rid of marriage altogether.
If two people love each other they don't need to be married to proof it, (in origin marriage was just a tool to denote possession). If you can't trust your partner without marriage, then just don't plan anything long term.

I'd also love to outlaw organized religion (not faith, just religion)... But that would never work.

Ah well, Utopia... the one thing we all strife for whilst knowing it can never be reached.

Just wanted to say i share the same views with you on Marriage and religion. I think its really ingrained in older generations of our society. Personally Marriage is just a legal contract for me. you dont need it to love someone. But my parents on the other hand, look down on people who live together without being married. They consider them dirty or not "committed". I can never really understand why, but it was how they were raised, i dont think they can help it. As for religion, well, brainwashing 101.

Well, presuming that I had the full support of Congress (which would be highly unlikely -- people are too busy looking out for their own skin to care about what's best for the country or for other people. Especially politicians.), there's a lot I'd do.

Legalize gay marriage, first of all. I'm a hopeless romantic; just the thought of someone not being able to marry whomever they love really, really pisses me off. Oh, and I'd amend the constitution so that people can't discriminate based on "sexual orientation." Bah.

Legalize prostitution, and heeeeavily regulate it. Make them get regular health checks and carry licenses, or something. Tax it, so the government makes money. And with that tax money, I'd try and make programs to give women (or men) without a choice... a choice. So they wouldn't have to turn to prostitution because of destitution.

Lower the drinking age to 18 (if you can die for your country, why can't you have an alcoholic beverage? It seems ludicrous to me.), and legalize marijuana use. Seriously, cigarettes are legal, and pot isn't? If you look up the actual history on why it's not legal, it's pretty much boils down to racism. Ridiculous.

Raise taxes for the wealthiest percentages of people in the country.

With some of that money, research cleaner, more efficient forms of energy so that we don't kill the earth and rely too much on foreign oil. No big deal.

... I'd probably make a horrible president. Huh.
