I'm a bit of a Nostradamus fan, let's see what happens in 2012 (Somewhere at the end of 2012 was where he said the world would end - though I could remember wrongly)

humans may not evolve naturally anymore and I agree that there's not really a selction (we kind of protect the weaker members of society from dieing), but I think that we already can manipulate gens drastically and will do it eventually. I don't think that there really is a top of the food chain, and if there was disease would be at the top, or bugs. (gross, don't ask why unless you really want an answer).

I also think that if we continue the way that we're going that we will be wiped out eventually, probably by nuclear war followed by a natural catostraphe. (There would be some survivors after the war, but they would be wiped out after the natural catostraphe.

I picked "Were we ever at the top?" since natural disasters endanger human life...I should have picked "2012 is drawing near...", huh?

Indeed, food chain (part of food web?) has no "top". It is obvious that some of us will choose the 4th option. Other might answer differently because they think "top" is the symbol of our reign over other species...

i watch too many discovery channel "Survivor shows" to know we not on the top. try Surviving in the jungle without your precious tech. and weaponry and see how "top" u are for ppl who voted we are the top forever.

Humans has brain and know how to use it.And human are very selfish so for sure they will be the top no matter what they need to do or sacrifice. Thats what I think.

LMAO, that's like telling a lion to swim in the ocean or telling a raven it's not allowed to fly. Technology comes with us, it always has and always will. Modern man has never lived without tools and has only one animal to fear in this world: us!

Besides the Jungle isn't that tough to be honest, the only thing you have to fear are mosquito's and there are plenty of trees in your surrounding to gain the higher ground. I've camped out in the Amazon a few times with nothing more than a Machete. I think Africa is a far more dangerous place to survive without modern day weaponry.

Even if men's able to kill all kinds of animals by means of arms, traps and other facilities, one shouldn't forget that - not only in Africa, but worldwide - one of the major causes of death are infectious diseases. Even in countries with proper medical facilities people die from HIV, pneumonia or even the flu, if you're unlucky. Without question there's a huge class of species which means danger to us no matter in which country we live or how many precautions we take. So we should be careful claiming superiority all too fast.

No. Humans will do everything they can to
stay at the top of the food chain. It is just not
possible for any other creture to catch up to us
in less than 10 million years and by then we are
all most likely dead and in case we weren't,
other species would be. If there are other life forms,
it is very unlikely they are humanoids. Their ways
of life would differ from ours and they necessarily
wouldn't eat or have social hierarchy.
