The way the philosopher's stone was created was in the manga, and the Homuncului were also there.

And yeah, I don't really watch any anime at all...

The Homunculi are different though. Explaining WHY they're different would be a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR spoiler, so I'm not explaining it.
