For me One Piece both the Anime and the Manga is the best thing since sliced bread, definitely the best Manga I've read.. (I still like Bleach and Naruto also but both of them, don't even hold a candle to One Piece)...and right now in the latest arc One Piece is making Manga history in my opinion.

I started watching the Anime then reading the manga and One Piece unlike some other Manga keeps getting better and better. It's running for like 12 years and just gets better. 🙂

It's worth it to read. I have read a lot on manga, and in general, I do not read anything longer than 1 volume. But One Piece is good enough to still have me reading it after 4 years, if that tells you anything.

Read it. It keeps getting better as it goes on, and it doesn't start out bad either. I mean, every manga starts out a little bit slow, but as soon as you clear the first few chapters you'll love it. It has kept me reading it every week for years now! Reeeaaad it!!

TT_TT Someone is willing to give One Piece a try.

Seriously dude, give it a go (though you already did it by now 😛 ). One Piece is one of the manga that for all ages. I mean it. With Bleach it's sorta enjoy -ish when you're around 13-18 years old but then you sorta grow out of it. With One Piece, you can read it from 13 to even 30 or 40 years old! I have a friend that already settled down with his wife and kids and still enjoy One Piece (it's also one of the main reason OP is in top sales in Japan, housewives also read it! I will try to find the link that proved it if you want to).

The story has underlying theme that you can only perceived if you dig deeper into it. That's why even adult enjoy it. Other Shounen kinda tell their story too literal sometime. Like teenage angst to support the plot and character etc but OP goes beyond that.

This is what I enjoy about OP.

  • It has unpredictable (or even if it's predictable, it's entertaining or exceeded the expectation) twist. That, of course, if you didn't read a spoiler.
  • It has foreshadowing and ties in concept. Things that happened in a particular chapter will later being explore in the later 50-100 chapters!
  • Oda sense of humor that never failed to made us laugh.
  • Oda brilliant story telling that never failed to amaze us. Even the flashback can be used as a stand alone story (Jaya/Skypiea, Norland and Calgara story).
  • Cover story. OP is one of the manga that used the first page to develop a story and character instead of draw a random character pose (though he still do it from time to time, but it's enjoyable to see the cover and color spread).
  • Hidden character to spot!! It's like "Where's Waldo" if you ask me 😛 You can have fun spotting Pandaman whenever you re-read the manga just to kill time XD.
  • There's lots of mystery in this manga and it will be explained later on by the mangaka. Most mangaka tend to forgot about their story and characters but Oda never did!

You gotta pay attention to the character interaction to noticed the foreshadowing and ties in plot and characters. Or you can ask me and others where the foreshadow and ties in 😛 . Example I could used here is, cover story in Chapter 196 will play a major story in Chapter 490. Someone's name (a villain) has been mentioned from Chapter 154 and that villain will be developed from time to time. Cover story in Chapter 101 will be explained in Chapter 432 etc etc. There's too many to tell. You can clearly see Oda really planned out his story and characters very well. He carefully organized and plotting it at a time.

It's about adventure, it moves straight forward to its goal and keeps getting better and better (you're probably getting this a lot XD). The idea, the setting, all of it are still fresh and unique up until now.

To those that haven't read this yet (and decided to lurking on this forum to see if it really worth to read), go read it now. Why wait until the number of chapter add up from each weeks when you can start and catching up to it by now. Just like others has said, OP keeps getting better, it flows in a reasonable time frame (no power up, no boring training arc, no Deus Ex Machina / plot device). I'd rather read a manga that keeps getting better than reading a manga that start of good (has its moment) but went downhill or having an inconsistent ride as time goes by.

Oh, sorry for the long rants >_< but here's a good picture to compare One Piece with other manga. 😀
