First thing first, I'll move this thread to the Chatter Box.
On the topic of love in lit and love in general -
It sure depends on what you're reading.
If you think you can find the type of love pulp fiction advertises, you'll be sorely disappointed.
While the idea and feeling of love is exciting, I don't like novels centering around it.
Relationships and emotions are not interesting enough to write a whole damn novel about, at least in my opinion.
For me, affection is comfort.
I'm not sure about love as a whole, but I do like being close to a person that makes me feel good.
And it's not a moment at all, unless you believe in love at first sight.
Love, for whatever it is, is a continuum.
And Seijurou, I have no idea what you keep blabbing about.
It seems any point fails to sink in on your end.
What are you even talking about? "people forget we have genres for a reason"
Just because you write about a topic that's been written about before, doesn't mean you can't ruin it with being a talentless fool.
Reading stuff by some lawyer-novelist might have affected her view on thigs.

well to be fair every single story will have some degree of recycling, but only on a base needs level.... id liken it to curry. just cuz you use a lot of the same seasonings doesnt mean you get the same taste. preparation, heat, quality, method, order, and amount all cause a humongous change in the taste that is produced. So while i admit some recycling is required, the chances of making a story that will feel like the same exact plot are phenomenally low. unless you are only using a very small amount of ingredients.(and by small i mean whats in that pot isnt curry its f'ing meat and potatoescoughtwilightcough you hack)
btw to all who consider me an idiot for likening romance to a food, and such a cliche one at that. you can go use your gastrointestinal track as a condom while you fornicate with yourself, as i am quite pleased with how my metaphor turned out 🙂 .

For the on topic note: The OP wonders whether a common theme they see in books by a third-rate author is present in reality. Literature should not present the same issue, because skillful writing mirrors humanity. It's relevant to the discussion, as the question wouldn't even have come up.
The OP is wondering whether love exists. I am sure she understands the author she mentioned didn't invent love.
On 'recycling': There's clearly a disconnect on your end as well- genres don't exist for the sake of recycling plots, unless "a murder" is your idea of a plot. There's skillful recycling of eternal themes and plots and then there's changing some names and places and eight or so words and republishing. Think the six recycled plots in 1984.
I haven't read the works of the author in question, so I can't really comment on it, but just try to be easygoing.
Perhaps my wording was chosen poorly, but come on, if you have enough marginal intelligence to nitpick you have enough to read between the lines a little.
Ok, this is ironic.
On my being a dick: Yeah, I am. I call things as see them, and oftentimes I don't feel like ignoring someone who offhandedly offends higher institutions through either sheer ignorance or ordinary idiocy. Deal with it.

Cramming words in people's mouths to "win" an argument is easy. Cramming a foot in one's own mouth requires timing. Understanding the misunderstanding is difficult.
Unfortunately, it seems heaven is lost.
What am I referring to? Wouldn't asking be somewhat ironic?

I haven't visited my post for a long time and I'm surprised to see how it came about. Thanks for those who seem to have run to my aid, and I'm sorry for disappointing many as to my taste of literature. I hope you have all worked out the misunderstanding, I never posted this knowing that something like this would come about.
I just wanted to know if there are people positive enough to still who believe in that kind of love. Anyway, these kinds of things are relative. It varies from one person's perspective to another.

I do like Julie James too, and it really makes me feel bad when people puts others down. People may say that many writers nowadays are crappy but the things is, they are still writers, if you're so great why don't you write something better?
