Some sites I use sometimes are Anime-Eden (req sign-up - free) and Goldlily's (don't have to sign up - seems its mostly shoujo, though)

My site, Goldlilys, is a request site. If you want more shounen mangas to be uploaded, all you need to do is REQUEST for it in the forums. Most of the time, people request for shoujo mangas so those are what my site mostly contains. That's it for now. Anymore questions about the site, please ask in the forums, the moderators and I are all glad to answer your questions.

Hi Goldlilys,
Thanks for providing your site! I personally prefer shoujo, so no worries here! So probably not going to use the request option anytime soon.
Thanks!

It's useful for downloading releases when the official links have expired, but other than that, I try to avoid using this site. In my experience, they don't respect the scanlators' wishes in regards of delay and "do not host" policies.

I don't really like file sharing on IRC that solid much, for one thing, IRC is by design a simplistic protocol and DCC is a hack to satisfy practical demands, which were known to be "dangerous" because you are presumably connecting through the server, the server often provides certain protection mechanism like hiding your IP or such, when you DCC to the other, it is different story. In practice though, you can do anything with trust but it still adds complexity for engineers (or more precisely it is a hack and doesn't work consistently).

Most IRC clients don't really want to support DCC in the first place.

Torrents on the other hand, encourage people to understand p2p sharing or just sharing in general, more independent, i don't want to be long-windedly say how p2p doesn't add as much stress for centralized server but that's also the idea, I recommend everyone uses torrent whenever you can.

It also changes the filename if i am not mistaken, i think the reasonable way to host is to host the vanilla (files unchanged, untouched), I don't mind if they unpack rar and then compress to .zip (it should be what #lurk does if not mistaken), due to politics on file format, but still it should come with some attachments so one can regenerate the vanilla format.

The best alternative so far is bakabt, it is perfect in every sense, they go through a bunch of consistency checks by "experienced" staff, I like it in every way except that they aren't entirely torelant on licenses.

True. They sometimes do some weird stuff with the files (be it just the names, or not)...
I miss #lurk 🙁
