Description
From Aerandria Scans: Princess Canary is to go to an omiai with Prince Heath, a prince from another kingdom known for his flirting with women, drinking and gambling. She agrees but only to have the chance to preach to him about the way he rules his kingdom. Prince Heath is completely opposed to the idea and instead of going, gives his pet lizard a potion to turn him into an exact duplicate so that he may replace him. But when the lizard and Princess Canary meet, she is surprised to find herself falling in love with the prince thinking the rumors may not be true at all. What will happen when she discovers that the prince she’s falling in love with is actually a lizard? And what about the lizard, himself? Will he be content living as a lizard once he’s had a taste of what being human is like?

You can kind of tell this is a first work... I don't feel the plot was very well-developed, this sort of prince/princess romance is quite overdone and rather than anything involving the plot is pretty much one-chapter subplots independent of each other, none of which are particularly strong. I would've liked to see more character development so that I could grow more attached to the characters, but you can't really expect much from two volumes. I think it's really the plot that is the weakpoint, the characters are okay (the guy is funny), the art is quite nice but the romance is pretty unrealistic and clichéd.
I'd recommend some of the mangaka's other works over this one. You can see how her art has become really really nice in her recent works like Himegimi No Tsukurikata, but I still think she needs to work some more on her plots as none of her ideas are particularly amazing and hence why her series are often short. If you are looking for something light-hearted and short, this is average, but if you want something deep and involving, skip this one.

Absolutely adorable. by Hanjae on March 14th, 2009, 1:31am

I thought the plot sounded pretty overused, but Izumi Asuka managed to turn what could've been boring and disgustly sappy into a really enchanting little story.
Another commenter mentioned that readers used to the strong, manly male lead might be shocked at this little fairytale where the princess is the one who wears the pants, but I think it's a nice twist on things. Sienna is sweet and can be just as tough and decisive when roused, but his gentleness is refreshing. Canary is equally easy to like.
The art is lovely, as expected from Izumi-sensei. Beautiful, clean, with that slightly rounded style that I really adore. Tokage Ouji does not have a particular plot, but rather, it shows the development of Canary and Sienna's relationship from their initial meeting to their tying the knot. It's cute fluff that leaves you with warm fuzzies - try it!

I was completely enchanted with this story...! It has amazing charater development...especially considering i normally don't like the whole fantasy genre that often. Yet, reading this manga has changed my mind!
If you like beautiful artwork and shoujo fantasy/romance....you'll love this!

I really love the story and the characters... at first I was reluctant because of the comments but I'm glad I tried to read it! It was soo cute and the Lizard prince is uber cute also!!! I guess it's a change that he's rather shy but he's really cute that way! The art is really good! and the story is also though i thought that it could have a big potential! well! I could say I really recommend this story!
I want to HUG the Prince Sienna! SOOO CUTE~ |

It's just okay by Sheard on March 23rd, 2008, 12:37am

The art is nice, but I couldn't get into it. There's way too much stuff on my "too read" list to trudge through this one. I did find the oneshot Insensible Bunny to be cute and fun, but it is extremely predictable.

Manliness lacking? by PandaRanda on January 17th, 2008, 9:56pm

I think that most people who read this (majority of which are most likely female) wouldn't really like this manga because of the male lead. He's sweet and all, but lacks on the manly side of things, and the female lead happens to be manlier than he is. I find it kinda cute in it's own way, but the lack of manliness in a shoujo manga is quite disappointing. The art style and comic expressions of the lizard are fabulous, and the story is a light hearted, fun read. So overall it's not bad to read, as long as you're not expecting a typical shoujo male lead. =P

It's okay. by yumemiru on January 5th, 2008, 4:36pm

Well, to tell the truth, this manga had nice art and all, but the way the story was told and how the characters are...that didn't appeal to me much as a reader. Given the chance, I wouldn't re-read it, but it'd be okay if you were really REALLY bored.

Its cute, but really shallow. ^^; I read 2 chapters, but all it was was cute, really. Not sure if I can finish it. I don't really like the characters too much either. The art is nice though.

Nice art but shallow story by kanvas on November 14th, 2007, 9:28pm

Impression in the first volume is: Although with very nice drawing, the plot is extremely simple. I didn't see any plot development since the first chapter. A light read with very nice art, but don't expect anything deep coming from this.
