Kamizono Academy is a school with an elementary, middle, and high school all within the same campus, and Ayumi is a new student at this enormous school. She is shy and has difficulty making friends, but when she meets wild and outgoing Torako, school life gets interesting as Torako begins to befriend various students within their class.

It appears that the series stops at 6 volumes in 2011. Then the first 6 volumes were reprinted in 2012 with a 7th volume that came out in 2013.

Fun School Slice of Life
Rating: N/A

This is the most enjoyable slice of life set in at a school I've read. The characters are fun with new ones being introduced to keep things fresh. This is a series that thrives on character interactions and its great seeing different characters interact with hilarious results. It's not too serious but not too goofy either. It's the perfect balance of humor sprinkled with character development. Give it a try.

The description and thumbnail of the cover did not entice me at all the first few times I ran into them. But today I was done re-reading Akuma Jiten and saw Hyakko had been updated, so I decided to confirm I didn't like Hyakko.

Before I realized it, I was drawn into the characters and the humor and had read four chapters. The first chapter is interesting, but like a very, VERY distant relative of a Monty Python skit, its momentum comes from surprising the reader with a sudden appearance or change of direction and characters making absurd choices that somehow make sense to them at the time.

My advice is to read at least through chapter 2 before deciding to stay with Hyakko or give up reading it. I enjoyed chapter 1, but it wasn't as engaging as chapter 2, etc. The art is a bit quirky, but as the story developed I began to think it fit the quirky nature of the character-driven comedy.

I'm giving it a 7, but I might increase its rating if the trend of each chapter getting better than the last continues.

Totally fun read. If you've been waiting to pick this up because of the lack of early chapters, watch the anime, and then start with Doremi's translations at chapter 21 -- it picks up right where the anime ends.

When I saw the thumbnail, I immediately thought Yuuhi Romance.... and sure enough, it's by the same mangaka.

I liked Yuuhi Romance, so I'm pretty optimistic for Hyakko. Will be back to rate once more chapters are out.

Only with one chapter out there might not be much to judge, but a good first chapter is what get people into reading the series, and so this is a good first chapter. The art is not what you would call amazing, but I like the style, and I like manga focused on the characters too, so it looks like a promising manga for me.
