Probably the closest experience I feel when reading Kimi ni Todoke. So much fluff but there is drama and communication along the way. Glad it's not as bad as other people make it. I kind of turned it off when I saw the rating on Amazon Japan years ago. I briefly stopped reading when a childhood friend came into the frame, but surprisingly it turned out pretty good. Koeda and Masamune remind me why I prefer healthy relationships in a manga than full package of stupidity, toxic, and jealousy inducing characters over cheating and or jerk ML. Masamune is a spoiled type but I see his efforts to be a proper boyfriend.
This is one of the manga that highlights physical problems. No realistic talk, but the author gives hope to many girls with their insecurities: "You want to be loved by the person you like for who you are". I feel touched. All the stupid prefixes and insensitivity of Masamune who can't see his limits at the beginning of the chapter is brushed off as he grows more and more in love with Koeda. And indeed, Koeda is a sweet girl. It's not a matter of trying to be beautiful, but that she is already beautiful as herself. I think the message is getting across to love yourself more.
What can I say about the ending? It's perfect. There is potential to continue their college life, but I'm happy either way.

A manga about an underdeveloped girl that gives up on love but immediately falls in love with the male lead because he's the male main character. And she falls in love with him because he harassed her quite a bit, but since he's hot its called flirting not being a weirdo (at least that's what they tell me when I do it.).
The series is actually more of about there relationship and her boost in character and confidence then them finding each other. The thing is the Female lead basically falls in love with the male lead almost immediately. We know it. However She takes an entire volume.... to realize she has feelings for him. So with the next volume We have the male lead doing the same thing. The first 2 volumes are definitely the weakest. We already know they are in love with each other but now we get to see them realize....slowly....over the course a full volume.... of something we already know. Which is fun right? Who doesn't like being told something they already know. This reminds me of the time people say *slow burn* which is really just another word for shit pacing.
With that being said. I do quite like this series. The FMC's blushing is literally carrying this series. Her blushes alone make this series worth reading. It is adorable. It is cute. It makes me wanna hug her right out of her manga. Sadly she's not real and my Mom said if I hug the screen one more time she is going to smack me.
The main issue of the series is I would say the love triangle that was *supposed* to happen. One of the girls is in love with the MMC (because this is a shoujo manga), she insults the FMC and then disappears..... Just gone. Comes back at the end though. I literally thought the Author must've forgotten her. I read her notes on this and she said that originally she had a different idea but decided to change it. I presume that's why she ended taking up a back seat instead of being the loser of the love triangle.
The characters get together by Volume 3. It is about there ups and downs in a relationships. Her being to shy to be intimate and getting over it. I'd say it gets boring but I'd be lying. I'm sure all the ugly women that are going to read this manga will relate to this series a lot especially if they have found love. The feeling of reaching the next step. Not being confident. To have someone to catch up when you fall.
The male lead is a bit annoying in the beginning. Especially since his feeling for the FMC basically boil down to her being the female lead. He absolutely falls in love with her but its when they are dating where you sort've get that connection. As I mentioned before the male lead is somewhat of a harasser but he compensates this by not being mature either. There is this whole thing about another guy being kind of into the FMC and he gets jealous. Honestly that arc is handled quite well. But when the female character is all over the male lead her immaturity escapes him. Which is odd as fuck. I really thought there was gonna be a small arc of understanding of characters here. But nope...
The series also had the occasional time jump but it was a bit odd here again. The main section of the series is the First year of Highschool. But like the breeze through 2nd year and 3rd year. Just so the author could draw more cultural and story moments. I guess the story had wrapped up and everyone sort've gotten an arc. But it did still feel a bit odd.
In the end the series is cute and adorable. The side characters could use more development. Especially since the author did end up teasing there romance. But the couple growth, the confidence boost puts this series is one of the must read sections. One of the better series I have read. Also fuck you. You know who you are.
7/10. Give this series a chance. It will surprise you.

So, this will be my first review and as of now, I've read up to 23 chapters of the manga and I really enjoy this one so much TT the romance/love between the two leads is so adorable and so genuine. Masamune helping Koeda become more open, being so patient with her and letting her set the pace for the relationship is literal goals.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Also, I really like how he handled it when this guy (rival dude >.>) just up and kisses the mc out of nowhere (and before anyone says, it wasn't her fault at all. Stop blaming her for something way out of her control; she was in tears and ran away afterwards). He didn't blame his gf, he was rightfully angry at the other dude and even went to have a "civil" conversation with him, basically encouraging to face his own feelings before trying to get in the way of their relationship. I found it was a very healthy way of doing so and I applaud the mangaka for going about in a way that causes less drama and angst, though I do love some angst from time to time XD The author really knows when to stop something for going on for too long which I really like!
All in all, this is an adorable manga! I highly recommend it if you're looking for a light read where the main pair date throughout the manga ^^Meh

I am seriously starting to avoid descriptions because it feels like whoever wrote them passed them through Google translate then copied and pasted it on here. That is lazy and have you ever heard of "lost in translation"? because this must be what happened here. For those who are just browsing/seeing if you want to spend some time on this manga I must tell you that this is NOT about a transvestite/gender swap or whatever you call it. Everyone knows she is a girl, she goes to school in a girls uniform, there is no one confused about her gender so that line about him keeping the secret about her being a girl is totally ludicrous. The secret is about her body shape, I guess to her, how abnormally thin she is and how uncomfortable she is about it, it has nothing to do with her sex. So for anyone confused about the summary not matching the cover picture, you're welcome.
Goes downhill once the love triangle is introduced.

She does a lot of stuff behind her boyfriend's back and the low self-esteem/unpopularity characterization is lampshaded as hot popular guys fight over her for dozens of chapters. Example:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
at one point you have the love triangle guy kissing her while she's on the phone with her boyfriend

So, i read the summary and the chapters from chibi, and there's a bit of.... divergence between the two. The main girl doesn't hid the fact that she's a girl, just that she likes girly cute things? So if you're looking for a gender blend with the mc hiding her gender, this one isn't for you (in accordance to the first 2 chapters). There's another summary that fits more with the first chapter.
But it is a cute little slow love life thing, with some character growth.
