Description
As a mountain-rescue volunteer, Shimazaki Sanpo is a man who has scaled the world’s peaks and is well acquainted with the rigors, joys, and splendor of mountains. Many alpinists make their way up mountain trails in the hope of reaching a summit in Japan’s Northern Alps, where Sanpo lives. With comments like “You really hung in there!” and “Make sure you come again!”, he cheers up the climbers as they head back to everyday life.

Dramatized but unfaithful

After 2 chapters, it was obvious the mangaka had almost no experience of mountain climbing. Who would imagine cornices handling straight in the void instead of curling along the falls? Who would draw a climber in deep snow with no crampons nor ice axe, just ski poles? Indeed, no one but the MC carries an ice axe. Sure, the mangaka read some documentation, and some things are rightfully depicted, but others are just blatantly wrong: after 1.5 hours under an avalanche and a few hours carried in the blizzard, most would die, and no-one would recover without loosing at least some toes and fingers. Even outside these technical aspects, everything seems a bit over the top in this manga, including the psychology.

Was waiting for it ever since I found out about it from the Shogakukan award list.
So far (following the scans) it has been very good. Loving it.
May be I would get bored with it if it stays episodic, but the pace is beautiful.
