Description

Shintarou Jagasaki, who is a neighborhood police officer, lives with his girlfriend while working a job that is killing him slowly with annoyance. It looks like he will end up marrying soon and live a boring life with a nuclear family - a grim future for a guy with dreams! One such day, a mysterious monster appeared on the train and he suddenly can shoot with his right hand like Master Buppanatsu, the eggplant mascot of his city!

Some dude gets a magic/alien parasite that unleashes his inner/most repressed desires... and it turns out, his is to shoot people. Including his fiancee.
Starting out based on a pretty dark concept with a very jaded, perverse view of humanity (like, yeah, because we're all rapists, psychopaths or some other sick s**t deep down - we just hide that to go along and get along), the author of this was never writing to appeal to children - or even anyone with a strong sense of morality - and this was further rammed home by the glorification of date-rape like sex and a character who lives out a tranny-fag's wet dream, as he takes on a young, hot girl's body and seduces men to feel validated. Not all hoes are women. Sigh.

I'm probably turning you off of this, but the artwork is phenomenal!
The action can be - at points - utterly arse-kicking too and there is, oddly enough, a pretty wholesome relationship as the MC rediscovers his humanity via love... but the above crap caused me to put this down a few times as I wondered on more than one occasion if I was dropping this for good. But then I'd read some mediocre action with bland artwork and come back!
I guess I suffer from some kind of deep-rooted affliction the author of this wants kids to believe we all have?

I wasn't alone in the comments section of hating parts of this, but there were also readers who loved it (some dude called this "a masterpiece&quot😉, but the overall feel I was getting from the comments was that the gay sex was both needless and just way too much.
I mean that's what yuri or yaoi titles are for and that kind of stuff should (screw you, Hollywood!) have no place elsewhere.

Still, credit where it's due and the last arc is solid, with the final "boss" in particular almost redeeming all the stupid s**t MC did just for the sake of drama...just never the Airi crap(!), hence my rating.

Had some interesting ideas and themes and motifs in the beginning, but ultimately felt generic and fell flat towards the end

Became a typical hero save the world towards the end. The "romance" with Bell-chan was kinda mid.

Tackles a lot of interesting themes, topics, ideas that many authors would be barred from doing. I enjoyed the metaphysical discourse.

A lot of unanswered questions like who made the frogs, the birds, etc.

At first I thought this manga was a plagiarism of Parasite with a few drops of Gantz, My Hero Academia, and a little bit of mahou shoujo (talking animal partners). Albeit this is indeed the case, the story has its merits. It is a reflection on the conflict between a person’s real motivations, intentions and wishes and the overwhelming stress that is living in modern Japanese society, all the roles and impositions you have to fit to be considered a good citizen. The society is sick and the symptoms are high suicide rates, nervous breakdowns (my case in particular despite I am not Japanese), the hikikomori people, and so on.

The intensity of the internal conflict between a person’s desires and self satisfaction versus the chains and roles imposed by society, the mediocrity of life, and the ultimate impossibility of ever attain happiness is the trigger that makes one a victim to the monster infection, therefore becoming a monster driven by its own frustration and killing rage. The (dark) hero being one of these.

Unusually there is a gender bender subplot that adds a special flavor to what otherwise would be our average story of monster hunting, gore filled, killing spree. It shows that to the women the impositions of the society are different and even harder to meet than that is to the men. Also how more vulnerable they are to violence — sexual violence mainly— than the average man. How the care and time they need to devote to their appearance and body is much bigger and how they experience sex intercourse is also different. I came to like Airi more than any other character.

Other satisfactory ingredients are romance and sex— lots of sex. This really surprised me, heroes in this genre of stories don’t experience sexual desire, it is a sin if the hero stains himself (or herself) with the lowly needs of the flesh. However this manga is exactly about desires and the impossibility to ever reach satisfaction in one’s life, thus leaving sex aside would be inconsistent. And, come on, people like sex a little bit more than violence and killing.

To my pleasure the ending is good, because very often even good manga and anime have lousy endings that let us down. The bad side of this manga is the art. We clearly see that there is a contrast between the background and scenery in general and the character design. At some point it seems that there are two different people drawing. While the scenery is mostly well drawn up to the end, the character design more and more degrades almost to comic book levels in the final three or four volumes. All the women have the same face, the faces become distorted as well as the bodies. Every character becomes generic and low quality, art wise, to the point it was painful to my eyes reading the final volumes. After all they had to screw up somewhere in what otherwise would be an enjoyable reading.

P.S.: Why the hell the scanlators transliterate ジャガーン as “Jagaaaaaan”? The right way would be “Jagaan” with two “a” only.

This is fun! The story has managed to stay strong and every arc is bringing up something interesting with "monsters" messing with the human society. The characters are all pretty original and are developed throughout the story, with more than one side protagonist whose story is pretty much disconnected from our main character. The latter is just a formidable mess between a broken man and a hero of justice, but that's exactly what makes him so badass and likeable. This is the kind of hero I've always wanted to see, a weak pitiful cop turned into a wielder of violence with the excuse of justice.

hi, just finished the first chapter. Still don't have a definite impression, but it clearly calls back the mood of Kiseijuu, that I liked a lot, both in the style and in the action scenes. The MC seems a bit too weird, hope it doesn't go too far in violence/gore, otherwise I'll have to drop it

good mix. reminds me of dorohedoro in that sense. it is more of psychological horror than tradtonal horror. what else can i say about it? it is very good, read it. many might think it is edgy because it has people (not important) dying or a bit gory, if that what it means to be efgy, then i like it.
