Description
From Nexgear:
Team Medical Dragon focuses around a genius surgeon, Asada Ryutaro, whose methods have made him a bit of a renegade in the eyes of Japanese doctors. The manga exposes the "illness" of the Japanese hospitals and how their system is not designed to care for the patient.

From ETC:
Dr. Katou is an ambitious woman who seeks to revolutionize the corrupt and inefficient Japanese medical system from within by becoming a professor in a teaching hospital. She enlists a maverick surgeon, Dr. Asada Ryuutarou, to help her with research that would catapult her to a professorship should they succeed and publish. However, Asada's refusal to conform to the system soon threatens to destroy not only her plans but her entire career. Katou is prepared to do anything, including going along with the system, in order to achieve her end goal, but she begins to question whether she has gone too far as Asada's actions bring many of the system's shortcomings to light.

Amazing by GuardianPL on October 2nd, 2009, 3:43am

I would never expect in a million years that some medical manga I took only because it's a seinen will blow my mind away so much.
It's just perfect. It's beautifully drawn, dark, serious and convincing at the same time. Main guy never cease to amaze, yet things he's doing are plausible, nothing from the over-the-top superman crap that is a sad standard in mangas.

One of the best mangas I've ever read, another title on my "list of pain" - mangas so good that I have to force myself to not think about them hoping to forget and come back year or two later. Berserk, Vinland Saga, Vagabond and Team Medical Dragon (Claymore is great too) - it's soooo hard not to think about them and wait, and wait, and wait... If you have any suggestions for similar stuff to the listed above I'll be grateful for PM smile

...Jack Black was good, but Iryuu just blew me away.

great medical depth by tran_genesis on August 13th, 2009, 9:14pm

i really have to give it to the scanlators for doing such a good job for this series. the technicallities of this series is really up there. story wise, its pretty awesome, points out flaws within the politics of hospitals, keeps you on edge, and yeah i really like the art.

Subarashi by comel on August 10th, 2009, 11:34pm

I like this manga.
This is... I hardly described it. Mature, intrigue n politics, morality, drama, cool n awesome main char (Dr.Asada tee hee, i want him), nah.... no complain.
I read the manga and already watched the dorama. I like both.

shocking first chapter by haru47773 on July 26th, 2009, 2:10am

i was kind of misled when i first read chap1 but there are no more traces of it as the story progresses, except that the vulgar attitude of asada still remains lol. anyway i've only read 2 promising medical story manga with nice art which are this one and Saijou no Meii. right now, TMD is still better for me primarily because i've been reading this one since the ancient times (exaggeration, i think it was around 2005).

Saijou no mei> Team medical dragon by kiron216 on July 25th, 2009, 10:07pm

Great manga written by an actual doctor. I wish people would stop putting down sajou no meii but there's no question TMD is better.

For those of you who can identify with this review I'll list my favorite mangas.

One piece, Hajime no Ippo, The world god only knows,TMD, Yakitate Japan!!, saije no mei, GTO, detective conan, H2O, The Breaker, biomega, Majin Tantei Nougami Nuero, midori no hibi, with the last three being debatable.

There are others but I can't remember them right now.

Actually, the later volumes (16+)reveal much more characterization as each of the original "bad guys" become much more rounded, each with their failures, their lives, their ideals. Redemption might be too strong a word, but at least they incorporate much more than "refusal to do good". In fact, the simplest way to show such development is by showing their lives outside of the politics and pressures of work - which in my opinion were brilliantly shown. This manga lost my interest in the mid volumes but has came back with a vengeance by filling up all the holes and much more.

Not too bad... by Lord_Lucifiel on April 26th, 2009, 11:40am

TMD has a decent amount of medical background and information, mixed with a certain level of comedy. The characterisation is okay, it's neither intense or shoddy, just somewhere in between.

While the over-the-top dramatization might turn some off, the pacing is pretty decent and stays quite even. The art is quite good and stays fairly consistent. The various characters, even the surgeries and other medical issues are drawn quite well.

My problem, though, is that it's still fairly flashy and tends to jump to conclusions by impressions like "I'm the hero of this story. 'Cos someone's goals are in collusion with me, he's the evil baddie. And oh... anyone else who disapproves of my methods is an evil baddie too unless it's some character who'll turn to my side sooner or later." But that's not how medical conundrums come about or are solved, though.

Note: For those who're looking for a light medical drama with some comedy, this should cover your needs. However, if you're looking for a manga which has an in-depth and gray-faceted approach to the many moral conundrums of medical issues, you might want to try Say Hello to Black Jack.

Too dramatic at start by BimboSilly on November 7th, 2008, 5:57pm

For the first few chaptesr, Every moment is like a dan!dan!dan! - without the gimmicks, its a good purpose manga with some good concepts but medical profession and miracles seem a bit trivialized by such drama...m a kid of two docs so I have a respect for medical profession but this really is like ....too flashy..but I guess by mid volume 2, it gets into a slower pace which is good..

Fantastic! by RiderFan on September 17th, 2008, 5:11pm

I thought I'd never come across another manga that addict like Monster. The occasional fanservice, the seedy underbelly of hospital politics, the medical information! It's like House MD and Great Teacher Onizuka rolled up into one package!

Great manga, or GREATEST manga by Juicifer on July 24th, 2008, 1:09am

uhhhh im going to have to go with GREATEST manga.... seriously

this manga has so many good things: ecchi elements, the occasional boob action, interesting characters, badass story, realism (as far as mangas go), and interesting medical insight... all of this cool shit is blended together into a great manga.

in all seriousness, if you are considering reading this manga, stop considering and read it, you wont be disappointed
