A loving piece in its own way by Lillian on April 25th, 2009, 9:05am

Up to v6c32:

The artwork is mediocre (but still stylish and gets better), the relationship development extremely slow, it has no drama... but... this manga has so many wonderful moments, an unique way of telling and character presentation. Nothing is generic (it spares the clichés known from its genre).

It's calm, it's gentle and it's relaxing but still develops passion and desire. And as the title implies it goes on with a kiss.
If you're looking for something more exciting, something lovey dovey, this is the wrong piece then. If you're currently fed up with the generic romance shoujo clichés with artificially raised dramas and irrational characters, and don't mind something in that everything is light except for the emotional depth, then give this one a try.

Its honest way and authentic characters captivated me, I love it, I want it.

Romance shoujo with well built emotions by cliff on October 25th, 2008, 10:58pm

The pace is really slow but it's like that when you fallen in love. My heart skips a beat or two in some chapters. There is nothing grand and shoujo typicals-cliches in this manga. The characters are fresh and so different and adorable. Even the uncle that many people hate, you can actually understand why he behaves like that. For me, it is not happen just like that. The emotions and relations between a character and the other characters are well built. Lastly, I really like Matsumoto sensei works. Beauty is the Beast is more toward a light shoujo manga but this is more joseish and romantic and I love it!

Not for the fanatics by Aevis on March 12th, 2008, 4:09pm

WARNING: Manga is not for the shoujo fanatics! If you fell in love with Beauty is the Beast, you'll get some enjoyment from this but if you like the shoujo-drama combo, I'd say skip it. The pace is perfect for me but it might seem very slow to others. Also, if you're in this for the 'music' element, go read Nodame.
Honestly, this is a really interesting manga that has captivated me because the characters' love is nice... a bit cliche but it's very sweet in a realistic sense. The drawing isn't fantastic but a change from the norm. Waiting fot the next chapter- Cheers!

Disappointed by yui-kun on March 12th, 2008, 1:20am

I decided to drop this after reading volume 1. There is hardly anything exciting in it as the couple is already together by the end of chapter 1. I don't know, maybe I just like the thrill of the hunt when it comes to shoujo manga. For one, I think the story is bound to end once the main characters get together; it must be difficult for the mangaka to sustain the reader's interest once that happens in the story. Anyway, I digress. For a music-themed romance, there wasn't much musical element in the first volume. I know a manga isn't supposed to be an encyclopedia, but after reading series like Nodame I guess my expectations are a bit too high. And there is very little comic relief in volume 1 (no, the owner doesn't count). Must be because it's a slice of life kind of story, but I found it really boring. I've read the comments below before and I kind of expected something great but I was thoroughly disappointed. Sorry but that's how I found it to be.

Realization by blueseeker on February 27th, 2008, 2:48am

For people like me who likes to wait until translations are completed to begin reading an interesting plot this is certainly one to be aware of. As much as i tried i could not help myself so now am a captive slave for the wait. The story is just too interesting to miss, is not just about music but the characters stories and even the main couples dilenmas are just great. The art at the beginning may seem a bit ackward if you are new to it but once you get past the first chapter you do not care and is pretty good as well. I recommend it to all of those who enjoy Nodame because although different the music part is quite similar.

Kiss it! by tsukia on October 10th, 2007, 6:29pm

Great story, very Matsumoto like! The chapters are connected with the music within them, making each one of them very enjoyable to read. Kae and Goshima form a good main couple, and the stories, as always in Matsumoto's mangas, seem really at ease, always following in a sweet manner, without being melodramatic. If you're searching for a romantic story with a taste of music and comedy, well, you should read it for sure!

well.. the art is not bad at all for a manga supposedly almost 10 years old..its clean, clear and pretty fresh, i must say. if you want a change from all those wide-eyed bambi dolls, then try this out! the plot does work..it's awesome, i've to say..and yes I'm not a fan of cheesy romance but this does work out for me cause its full of modern romance..kisses too!!

Very good! by blackcats on May 15th, 2006, 1:05am

I'm surprised that this manga isn't more popular. The characters are unforgetable and their love story is refreshing and as mentioned before... very romantic!
