Description
From Storm in Heaven:
Tome dreams of becoming a famous fashion designer. She's on the right track, working for some big-shots, and then Tamara gets dumped on her. While Tamara may be a famous beauty on the run-way, in her normal, daily life, the supermodel is self-centered, obnoxious, bossy, and an utter leech. However, when the bearer of a "cursed" necklace dies at a fashion show, is Tamara the only help Tome will get to solve the mystery?
I found it very entertaining and funny. I love Tamara (the character), can I just say that?? I'm very sad it was an oneshot... I think Fuyumi Soryo should've continued it... it's not that scary, more like a short mystery thriller, but that's just how I like it. Yes, the art is beautiful! Just like in Mars and Eternal Sabbath. Definitely worth a read.
Tamara is a good manga that balances both comedy and mystery in check. Yes, there's your gruesome, puzzling murder, a semi-haunted house, and your smartass detective but there's also humor and a couple of wisecracks now and then. For a mystery oneshot it's quite decent and a good enough read for those just wishing to pass away time.
Since this is a manga with a model as one of the main characters and haute en couture in demand, expect some good, realistic artwork. I think Telengard's opinion of some of the models resembling males in general is because Tamara's artwork is decent and realistic, not your average shoujo-esque type. Think of Paradise Kiss and Nana, if you will.
The story is a series of murder mysteries which happen inexplicably when Tome and Tamara are around. These two girls are bad luck. No unusual elements for the genre, though the writing is somewhat imaginative.
The art is very good for the most part. It's wonderful seeing the models draped in fashionable clothing and in lovely poses. There are a few panels where the models look a little man-ish in distance shots, IMHO. It's still very nicely drawn, and anyone acquainted with the shoujo style will feel right at home.
Recommended for fans of Mystery and Comedy. Horror fans will find very little to enjoy here.
