Retconned a good setup

Yet again Ikeyamada Go throws away a great setup to her series... this time instead of forgetting about it she decides to retcon it away, leaving just a barebones, cliche love triangle shoujo.

The setup she gave the first few chapters was sooo good- typical shoujo protagonist girl falls for typical shoujo 'prince' boy, they go out on dates, and it's great. But when she sees him again, he acts cruel, perverted and sadistic. The explanation is that
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
he has a split personality- how do you navigate dating someone that could switch at any moment?
Not only does it subvert the genre/the reader's expectations, it's such an intriguing setup and leaves so many different scenarios to explore.

Buuuuutttttt wait. Just kidding! The perfect prince doesn't
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
have two different personalities after all- he just has one: boring, shoujo prince. It turns out that the split personality is his identical half-brother . (This isn't even remotely possible in real life, even genetically identical twins have differences in appearance, so I'm supposed to believe that siblings that only share 50% of genetic material look the exact same?). So the story went from the complexity of dating someone with two opposing personalities, to "which brother should I date, the nice brother, or the mean brother?"
.

If you decide to read, prepare to be disappointed. Even if you like cliche shoujo, there are far better series to explore.

basically the girl falls for a look alike. the look alike changes and becomes a jerk (? it's been too long since i've read this). she then falls for the other look alike. the other look alike and she gets each other. good build up tho. although the ending is somewhat lame and unexpected.

Same-old cliches, but enjoyable

It's not the best but it does have it's good parts, mostly because of the ending.
Starts pretty rushed tbh, and some parts just make you go wtf?? Hikaru is just like most shoujo manga protagonists: weak, dumb, cry baby and annoying urgh. She just goes around misunderstanding everything, most of the drama in this manga is because she just overly think things e_e
And Takara is like that average same-old shoujo manga prince: handsome, cool, strong and a gentleman (in Hikaru's eyes anyway), but honestly he is quite boring orz He doesn't have any actual character development >_>
Arata, on the other hand, starts super annoying and a total womanizer, but as the story progresses, he starts to change. The only character in this goddamn manga that I actually liked.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Also, Arata is SO CUTE as a Tsundere <3

Although, why would someone as good as Arata fall for Hikaru is beyong me but oh well.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The good and interesting parts starts at chapter 23 with Ami's car accident, Hikaru and Takara's break up and finally some romance for Arata

Now, what I liked about this manga is that the main protagonist ends up with someone that loves her for real and not in a selfish way.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It was beautiful to see Arata changing himself for Hikaru, and just wishing for her happiness even if that meant she wouldn't be with him

The ending was beautiful and it made me cry a bit ;; Although I wanted to punch Hikaru for being so dumb and indecisive.
So... Basically the only reason that I enjoyed this and read it until the end: Arata. u_u

My favorite thing about this manga was that the guy I was rooting for was the one who got the girl. I hate hate HATE the heartbreak I experienced near the end, but I loved the rest of it. It's packed with cuteness and bubblies and giggles but also sadness. The last page made my heart swell <3

First, I don't get the point on advertising she is an otaku because she doesn't really do very many otaku type stuff whatsoever.. Second, same ol' rivalry love story with predictable storyline/ ending.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
a middle school senior gets in some trouble and is saved by a brute that takes her first kiss apon meeting... She thinks she then sees him again on a group date but it ends up being the wrong guy.. They have a ruff first meeting but the guy ends up being a sweetheart, and she falls for him. But he doesn't seem to care for her. He also keeps getting slapped around by girls that claim they were which him the night before.. She then sees him being a bad guy again.. He says he has split personality... The next morning she then finds out that it was a big lie.. The brute is really her crushes younger half brother that look exactly like him besides his blue eyes... Shortly after he starts to big her all the time.. But things have already progressed with her crush and they end up going out together. Things seem to be going well when his old friend comes into town and starts to stir up stuff between them because she has a crush on him.. Then when they are about to go on a date and "do it" together he almost gets into an accident.. His friend is the one that saves him and in his guilt he decides to break up with her. She then decides she wants to sleep with him as a "keep sake". They do and break up. She then cuts her hair and looks super different. All she does is cry about everything.. Then oven tidally the brute that has fallen for her gets her attention.. But by that time her ex wants her back so he gets in the way.. In the last fight between them.. The brute decides on a karate match for them to figure out who she should be with.. Because she's an indecisive idiot.. Then the brute gives up and throws the match.. This was one of the few mangas that made me sob like a baby, even when re-reading it.

Cliched but wonderful. Must-read!

I rarely like a Shoujo manga with a pushover heroine, but I did like this one. In some ways, mangaka-san managed to made me doubt who Hikaru would end up with (and I was so certain at the start!), happily though, she ended up with the guy I liked. :3
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
And it's rare for me to like the emotional guy who always turns out to be the male lead.
So thumbs up for moving my heart. It's not an awesome read, but good enough if you just want a good old Shoujo.

Not so awesome as previously mentioned

I'm sorry for being the one spoiling the fun of other commenters, but I honestly found it quite misleading and I ended up despising this manga, In my belief it is quite overrated, not because it was the stereotypical shoujo manga in general, but because of Hikaru, the stereotypical crying shoujo idiot protagonist. It was obvious from the beginning with whom she would end up with (which gave me a feeling of mercy and it ended up with a 2 instead of a 1).

Besides, there were a couple of moments where I thought "How did she end up there again all of a sudden?" or "This manga is full of pro ninjas, they always get to the places they must be to over hear or see the critical stuff". Awful.

There are way better shoujo manga out there waiting to be read than this one.

I love this one! I don't even know how many times I've re-read it. It is definitely one of my top favorites. Arata is just so sweet, cute, and hot ^____^ I like Takara as well but not as much as I do Arata. I kind of wish there was a sequal...This mangaka is definitely one of my favs. Sometimes you just need the sweet cheesy romance to make your day just little better smile

Let me tell you guys that I read this manga like a year ago. I actually got up to around V3? & I believe I just dropped it prob b.c I couldn't stand the heroine (can't get pass that her hair is pink :l unless she dyed it every month). I saw I used to rate this a 1. LOL I think some parts were a bit boring.. like the Hikaru x Takara moment. So I got bored and just skipped to the end. BIG MISTAKE.

Gave this manga another try b/c I really enjoyed author manga, Uwasa no Midori-kun!!

The best part of this manga was def when the accident happened. I actually teared up.. Now giving this a 10! Such a great manga to read! I read way too many shojos and this def one of the good ones out there.
