there were flashbacks everywhere and it was confusing because i cant really tell the difference between the characters. the art was nice but its either a love it or hate it, its very sketchy but for some reason the author puts all his attention to making hair shiny.
the dialogue was really weird. theres german, french, and spanish in it. its not really needed because its rather annoying when you have to flip to the back of the book to find out what the fugnuggets the characters are saying.
the story premise is interesting, but the way its executed makes it more cliche than it already is.(i'm in love!->but im going to run away to protect her->) but when i cant tell who is who then its time to drop this manga.
i say only read it if you need some inspiration for writing your own goth story.

I thought the plot was clever and the character designs were sweet, but the way the story was told bothered me. I hate so many flashbacks, and they seemed to be a large part of it. I know it's nessesary for this type of story, but it still bothered me. The art is unique, but a bit hard to follow sometimes.
If you like this type of manga, you should give it a shot, if you have time. I liked it, but it's just not my sort of thing.

This is an amazing series. The art took me a few pages to adjust to, but now I love it! The characters have depth and can be cantankerous, and the storyline is great. The world is fascinating. My only complaint is the cliff-hanger ending.
The art.

God, I love the art of A Midnight Opera. It's probably one of my favorite art styles in any manga I've read. The story is unique but the whole thing is kind of jumbled and a lot of it doesn't make much sense. But I'm a total art snob, so that definitely redeems it in my eyes.
