Great but... by Lux.Lucis on June 21st, 2009, 12:50am

i love the art, the characters and the storyline but as the others have said, they can be further developed. may be there's not enough room for development in just one volume. one thing i like particularly is how ranmaru remained like a man - he's manly etc. however, by giving i himself to al, he said he threw away even his pride as a man. i disagree. is it a man's pride to penetrate everything he sees? how naive. i'd say, whether it be women's pride or men's pride, it is the ability to protect those that/who they love. and ranmaru did both didn't he? he chose to protect his group while keeping the love with al. this is mentioned - the man's pride - in many yaoi mangas so i'd like to make it clearer.

Really weak story by venezia159 on July 24th, 2008, 7:22pm

The characters are really uneven. The potential is there, but they never quite get there. Great art, as usual and some good funny stuff so I'm giving it a 6.

Not as bad as I thought it would be after reading the summary and hearing what other people said about it, but I found a typical yaoi plotline and not much character development. I like the anime better, maybe because it translated the comedy better onto the screen than on paper...?

Ah i really enjoyed this manga when i read it a while back and am so glad it was made into an anime...the art is just as great and it follows the manga. I wished there had been more though since this could have been a great manga to develop further than a volume.

Yamane-sensei is a master artist of both words and illustrations. A Foreign Love Affair doesn't disappoint. It has a powerful poignancy to the story and humour to keep it from being overwhelmingly heavy.
I like my BL genre to have a little (okay, a lot) of rough behaviour and words intermingled with the touching i-love-you-and-touch-you-ever-so-softly-as-i-gaze-into-your-eyes moments. The oh-my-god-i-can't-believe-this-is-happening-and-OW!-I'm-shocked-and-what- did-I-do-to-deserve-this moments are included in this rough and tumble Italian affair! Yay!
This lady delivers with flair! I flipped back four times over in one sitting to the pages where Ranmaru was drugged and dragged off to sin and depravity just to give myself a rush each time. Certainly not as rough as her Finder series *DROOL*, but the relationship between Al and Ranmaru is captivating and kept me turning the pages.
My rating is not 10 because I thought the characters could have been developed more. More scenes of the relationship between the two developing and always more angst. It was a little fast. And the ending was slightly dissatisfying.
