Sequel to Megane Gochi no Sora wa, with the focus on different characters, I really wasn’t expecting much. While I was not disappointed by my low expectations, I was definitely surprised at points. Especially, seeing how much the characterization of the uke had changed, and the seme had learned some tact. However, as I said in the starting even as these small hopes and dreams of mine were budding they were all, quickly enough, uprooted and crushed. The stereotype of the “naturally uncontrollable male desire”, “you asked for it”, and Stockholm Syndrome were deployed, all within the span of a mere two-three pages. While this isn’t particularly bad, as I have seen worse, still I am constantly bothered about how will the relationship now play out between the two (I still held out a small hope). And again while it is nice to see that this does affect their relationship with the seme being more, in fact extremely, considerate towards the uke. The uke now oscillates between being strong and self-reliant and all jiggly and wiggly all of a sudden.
What I will say is that I found the art actually quite nice and a great improvement in terms of character design, paneling, background, and clothes (especially the clothes!).
That side story tho, it was the example par excellence of the tropes of power, humiliation, and love within the yaoi genre with manga as the medium. And you see, my main contention is that in the previous work, and in this one as well these are the main themes which the mangaka is dealing with. Well, I guess the side story is simply fan service so I understand why it is the why it is, however I cannot approve of such fan service.
