I think the first time I ever even saw anime (didn't even know what anime was until like a decade later) was a few episodes of "Zatch Bell" or whatever the English dubbed version of this is called. I read this like 15-20 years later after just randomly thinking about that. I definitely didn't expect it to be one of the greatest manga I'd ever read. Easily the best one of these pokemon/Digimon/Yu-Gi-Oh/beyblade-esque adventure/battle type stories, and that's without the nostalgia.

Amazing, Hilarious, and Tear-jerking

As an adult reader myself, I grew up with Naruto, One-piece, Bleach, and other long-lasting shounen manga. I must say it's really hard for a shounen to bring all of the "friendship" theme without being boring and stupid by coming up with many one dimensional character, but Gash Bell is different. I read it as an adult male and I felt the emotion surging up in each later arc.

One thing I must say, the best shit from Gash Bell is the character development. It's one of the best manga that can depict how hard and amazing it is to grow from zero to hero. And of course, hero can't fight alone. It should and always be a company of heroes. This manga stick to it from beginning to end in a magnificent way.

For those who haven't read this, don't be discouraged by the cringe premise, weird character, and sketchy art in earlier arc. Stick to this and you may find the story get engaging in each chapter. For me, I think vol 8 is where it's all start to click together.

It has its absurdly hilarious chapter and it also has amazingly emotionally chapter. I ask no more and I'm satisfied. I wish the best for the author and the translator

A nicely written story

So I recently read this in the 2020s, the story goes through at a nice pace and there are nice slice-of-life moments between arcs to help with pacing with it.
The battles are great there are rules to help simplify battles and force the battle to be rather unique and no battle ever feels the same.
All the characters are quite fleshed out everyone gets a moment and no character ever feels like they haven't improved in this series.
There is no real big flaw in the story only minor setbacks.

Really like Raiku Makoto's brand of shonen. Great style of comedy, fun creative combat with well thought out powers and minimal asspulls, and a healthy dose of friendship and touching moments.

I wonder why everyone seems to love this thing. It's honestly quite horrible, but perhaps my tastes have just been corrupted from reading too much manga and novels that this kind of thing can't be considered amusing anymore, or my tastes are just different to other people here.

First of all... where's the fun? I see a lot of things where the author is trying to make it funny, but I find it to be just about all low-level stuff which might make a kid laugh, yet I don't even smile, sorry, I've seen too funny stuff to even crack a smile at this shit. It completely gives me the feeling that it's similar to dragon ball, written for kids and that I remember enjoying when I was younger and couldn't properly evaluate stories. The art style is not just bad, it gives off radiance of childishness akin to a search light in the night. I don't really mind bad drawings, I've read a lot of stuff with horrible drawings far worse than this and loved it, but this is just dull, the style of the drawings and characters that show up are clearly aimed at kids, with mascot-like characters abound and childish-silly appearances of just about everything, it turns me off quite hard.

Oh, and it'd be cool if the demon was a tough loli instead of shota since it'd make all the escapades and stuff that character does way more amusing and cute, but that's just my preference and doesn't really matter. If the story here was actually good, that wouldn't have mattered. Well, in the end I guess I just picked the wrong manga.

Best combination of comedy and action ever. The story is unique, the characters are memorable, the battling is just superb. It is so well balanced and interesting that I could not put it down. I love that unlike most stories this one focuses on the dynamics of relationships between two people. Well people and their mamodo anyways. It really is about friendship in the most basic level and not the cheesy kind like some other mangas that I won't mention.

So, Voltron again comes on tv and it reminds of this manga (because of that toy Takamine makes for Gash xD [though the toy is called Vulcan >.>]) and I just start laughing to myself. This series was freaking hilarious AND had great action/plot.
The more observant amongst you may realise that the series wasn't complete back in '06. Truth is, during the 9 month gap between scanlations in '06 and '07 I'd forgotten about this series (or maybe it was the next gap). When it finished a few years later I planned to re-read it from the start but that didn't happen for some reason.
From the 15 or 23 or so volumes that I DID read (and what I know of the end) I think I'm perfectly within my rights to spread word of this series' greatness.
It was so fun. So hilarious. The action scenes had absolutely no ass-pulls (except maybe the second last fight in the series, it seems). Even the little romance, I remember, was hilarious like in 'Nyan Koi!':
"They share a secret only the two of them know about!?" xD

I find that even though the art is not exactly beautiful, it actually helps to deliver a hilarious feel (especially when purposely drawn hideously xD) I found myself cracking up because of how weird the art was intentionally drawn (crazy bulging eyes).

Honestly, I have no idea if I'm just emotional this week, but I found myself mentally sobbing at some scenes (and actually tearing up during the entire Faudo arc) and then just going crazy with laughter at others. It's a really great series that I heard of when I was very little but never actually got into until recently.

Zatch Bell was updated...not really. It was a One shot of Zatch Being King in the Mamodo world.
it was nice to see new content of Zatch, and to see that he hadn't changed.
I just found out about it...wish someone had told me sooner for I could've actually joined in the forum discussions about Zatch Bell ><

Overall this managa was a great read enjoyable with awsomely drawn effects and so on. I felt that the manga should have ending with the fido arc however. Everything would have fit into a perfect little circle leaving no questions unanswered and bringing all plots to a close. But no....there is the introduction of a demon called clear who for all purposes felt like something stuck on with stickytape to keep the manga going.

These is still 1 more volume left to read so i cant give my final verdict but it felt as if it shoulda ended a while ago. Its like eating something till your hearts content...but you have a few more mouthfuls just cause it tastes good. But it ends up making you feel sick. Shoulda quit while you were ahead lol.
