If you ever read a 1960s-1970s sci-fi literature, you will understand when I say this story has all the classic sci-fi presumptions: humankinds' rejection of knowledge, the supernatural terror, aliens, & flat characters personalities. If you don't read sci-fi (or at least never read a classic sci-fi), then the stories would be more of the genre of modern supernatural fantasy with horribly flat characters, and no development.
However, the point of this work is not to show anything but situations and oddities that could possibly exist. Therefore, the flat characters and strange merging of religions can be relished, if you only rate the "Youkai Hunter" on the authors ability to create a land of pseudo science.
