not that good, not that bad, just average by Kaito Zero on April 29th, 2009, 11:03pm

the modern Arata seems really boring. i would rather read about the Arata that went to the future. from what I've read so far it seems like the modern one is the main character and he doesn't seem as interesting.

Not bad by fayt709 on February 24th, 2009, 1:07pm

I just keep wandering what's happening to the other arata, the one who was introduced in the first chapter but has been virtually ignored since except for brief appearences every now and then.

Not Bad by Aeylis on January 7th, 2009, 3:06pm

I usually don't like series like this, but it isn't bad so far. It is interesting, pretty original...So Yeah...I like it so far. I'm still not attracted to the storyline where people travel through time but...Its good enough that I overlook that!

Arata Kangatari by Chemmy on December 6th, 2008, 7:47pm

Wow, Watase Yuu's really tried new genres lately. First yaoi, now shounen. O___O.
It was surprising that her *somewhat newer* yaoi manga plotline was so much better than her mediocre shoujo ones. I have a feeling that this manga will be worth reading.

Looks interesting so far... by albeitalways on November 22nd, 2008, 1:42am

I'm really curious as to how this series would progress. It's a bit like FY, only throw in an alternative albeit similar fantasy, medieval Japan setting but only more suited for an action/adventure type of story. The difference is that this time, the main protagonist is a boy, who has issues
Spoiler (highlight to view)
he is currently unsure of himself, since it turned out his bully was none other than his so-called 'best friend', which hampers him at critical moments, regardless of that, he continues to move forward with the encouragement of the former Hime-Ou
--nope, not the ones like Miaka or any of Watase's clumsy, weak heroines--but something that I think would have a greater impact in the story later on.
This has your typical shounen elements--an interesting storyline (which hopefully gets further explained and evolved--but since this is Watase, I don't doubt it), a devoted sidekick
Spoiler (highlight to view)
maybe even a future love interest later on, a boy that switches places with someone else from another world,
and some mythological artifacts and whodunnit which serves to add meat to the story.
My only hope is that this one would not get devolved into your average, cliché shounen manga despite its starting premise. Apart from that, hopefully, Watase might have a change of heart regarding the personalities of her characters. Sometimes, they resemble flat, stereotypical 2D figures that gets in the way of the readers' enjoyment despite the riveting storyline. But I could dream. Based from the positive feedbacks of her recent mangas, I guess it's safe to say that her storytelling skills have improved.
