Friendly and painful

At the end when I am exiled from the story.. I feel Anuki is mercilessly punished by his Creator who does not seem to do him any justice.. ever.. I`ve seen the character growing .. but never actually fully grown.. friendly scenes.. poisoned by just the right amount of evil turns just to let you bitterly feel that not everything is as it seems..

The author does not give all the answers and saves many resources along the epic line with further developing possibilities.. but at the end I am not left empty headed.. I received a lesson on the importance of being a good pilot and having a plane as good.. and rather suddenly I also have to think hard over "what`s the meaning of all this?" "what did we gain?"... is it the meaningless of the war.. or from the start the path we took lacked the real value.. or is just crisis in restlessly staring at the big blank: "done that, then what?"..

The art is very nice and from time to time the reader is, almost all by himself, left to imagine all the greatness of the pilot`s aerobatics related in only a few words and sketches.. from time to time I was at a lost and decided just to trust the lines.

I just have to learn to drive satisfaction from being provided with meaningful questions rather then answers, nevertheless, I sincerely enjoyed the aviation topic and will gratefully rate it with a 9,

I though it wouldn't be that good and expected to drop if after the first couple of chapters but a note on the scan said it's not very good for the first 100 pages but the it really picks up. And it's such a good story after the boring bit, it may help that I love planes and the whole aviation thing anyway but I'd recommend it!

Fleeting disatisfaction!

A good thing about Anuki are the very very interesting aspects about aviation. I know little about planes but it was fun to see them in action. Also, the aviation school was kinda cool.

About the art: it wasn't too bad, really. I kinda liked that they threw in American-style art while mixing it with Korean manhwa style. The planes were drawn quite nicely too, though it was a pity you couldn't tell apart the friendly and enemy planes.

A bad thing is that the plot often fails to maintain coherence and constantly shifts from scene to scene, so it can be difficult to figure out the storyline. Though at the beginning, the story felt tighter but then it started to skip more and more. Hence, there aren't enough moments to care for anyone at all because it's all rushing towards fulfilling the overall plotline.

Another note: the plot mainly focuses on fleshing out the main cast and story while the rest of the characters serve as props(though highly visible). Hence, more of the pages are dedicated to the main cast while many different sub-storylines are rushed through and concluded rather swiftly, with various side characters being used and then discarded. Sure enough, you don't ever see some of the characters ever again.

A good thing is that it at least attempts to depict war for what it really is: not one of romanticism where war is simply about glory and fame but one full of loss, blood, fury, sadness and tragedy. A shame there isn't enough of it to really cement in these themes.

Conclusion: It's a real pity that the length of the story didn't do the plot any justice. This series would've done far better with an added 4 to 7(or more) volumes because the writing seriously felt highly disjointed. And the ending seriously sucked. sad I mean... what the hell happened to everyone else? confused And what about the main character's feelings and so on?

as the translator said... not everyone will find this interestin... most who does are those who have read too many common manga... i myself... find this very interestin... in fact.. i believe it can be made into a movie easily...

the drama is definitely good... but not great.... the story isnt very touching but overall its good... the only thing i dont like is that those freakin planes looks too similar....

Drama was good but rest of it not so much.
Some places feel like huge gaps between the chapters. a couple of misplaced comedy scenes and quite a few blanks in the story.
All in all its definitely seinen , has a realistic ending and stayed true to the story and didnt change it just for the sake of happy ending.

I admire the author for the work but just didnt come up to my expectations .

Fine piece of art

I understand some people have been praising the art. That's ... something I will never understand. The overall quality of it was, to say the least, lame. It's not it's strong point, it's not what matters. What you can get from this series is a certain kind of passion, not the one you get from being hyped up by reading typical shounen mangas like Bleach or Naruto, but a kind of passion or feeling that you get by trying see the miseries of war and greed.
When someone important to you dies, what have you lost? What have you gained? Can the miseries of today be considered sacrifices for tomorrow's sake? There is a lot to be taken from this one manwha, so I'll give it an 8 because, albeit it's awesome story-line, the artwork IS an important part of any manwha.

If you enjoy uncommon story-lines and developement, Anuki is one of the damn best pieces you'll ever find translated.

The art and storyline were pretty good. The plot could have been improved more, but I thought the mangaka did a great job in tailoring the ending. Worth a read.

A really fine series about a boy in a war between two countries who becomes the ace pilot for one of the countries.
A mahnwa with great art and with a good story even though it could been told a little bit better. But still it is awsome, so go ahead and read.
