Typical Yaoi set in a high school?

I enjoyed this manga quite a bit. There's nothing very special about it, just a cliche romance but it's perfect for a short quiet read. The only thing that really bugged me about it is that the story is clearly set in a prestigious high school for the children of the elite like the ones in Ouran or Hana Yori Dango, but for some reason it's called a "University". I'm not sure if it is a translating error or some kind of weird idea the mangaka had but I've never heard of a University where all the students look around 16/17 years old, have lessons in regular classrooms, are banned from working and dating, and wear uniforms. It's just a small niggle but it really did annoy me while reading this.

This mangaka need to write something new. The submissive, over-possessive, cool seme and the annoying, brat, whiny, denial, cute uke really need to change.I really don't hate that kind of personality but i wish it will be develop as the story goes. I mean the uke was whiny and in denial till the last page. It was lacking development and it really get annoying ( pointing at the uke). I also annoyed at the seme coz he is so submissive and forces the uke to do things but there was some sweet moments. I think i woulda like it if the best friend and the uke got together. O well no twist= boring!! i will give it an 7 i guess since art is good and i like the story at start just got bored and annoyed

The main story is the best one. It's about students in an expensive private school or something like that. It's funny. A lot like Bokura no Oukoku (Our Kingdom). All the stories are about pushy semes and unwilling ukes - you know, they start out non-consensual, but end with a "I guess I actually like him after all" sort of thing. Nothing new in this genre, though. That's fine with me, but there's a bit too much non-consensual stuff and not enough happy couple time for me in the other two stories.

Eehh... I don't want to be too harsh, but there were so many flaws with this yaoi that it's hard to focus on anything good. I guess the thing that annoyed me the most was the constant use of force. I mean, I know that force and rape are popular plot devices in yaoi, but the mangaka seriously overused them, and didn't even use them well. Not only did the main story have Orita forcing himself on Ryuya in practically every scene, but the two side stories used the same exact plot, as well! And how on earth did Ryuya fall in love with Orita? There's no way. At least, not in what you could pull from the manga. The side characters were slightly entertaining, but underdeveloped, especially when I think more could have been done with them. I kept waiting for the story to pick up, and I got a glimmer of hope when nearing the end of volume 2, but then it fell to pieces again. The art isn't even all that great. Sorry, but there are far better yaoi mangas out there. HOWEVER, for someone new to the yaoi scene, who hasn't read enough manga to truly differentiate between good and bad (And I know that there are many out there who have read much more than I have ><; ) , this might be slightly entertaining.

The Mysterious Undertow of Koujima-Sensei

This was my first introduction to Koujima-sensei. The story and art was deceptively simplistic. I completed Vol 1 in my first sitting, but I couldn't help but be pulled under and read it again in the same sitting. Hours later, I found myself still reading it. Over and over! I've picked it up over the months and reread it as well - which is highly unusual for me.

There were a few scenes (1. the couple times when where Orito was overcome with emotions and lost his usually cool and in-control demeanor and 2. the scenes with Ryuya and his best friend. The pain is palpable! God I love that angst and crazed-possessiveness) were incredibly heart-rending and heart-stirring.

I found the art intriguing and unique. It was vivid and eye-catching.

you know what it says about a yaoi manga when your favourite character is a woman? yeah, exactly. the seme is narcissistic, the uke has a warm-hearted supportive friend who's also in love with him; why does he pick his stalker and rapist? oh right, the seme gets what he wants. the 2nd volume is slightly better than the first, but just for the supporting cast, not for the main characters. yaoiland rapists are forgiveable if they're sizzling hot, of course, but unfortunately orita isn't, so that's the death knell for me.
