For 820 years he had slumbered with no knowledge of mankind's advancement and scientific progress. The land which he once knew has become an unfamiliar place with new technology, attitudes, and lifestyles. Upon awakening, Cadis Etrama Di Raizel (called Rai), seeks to familiarize himself with this era. He locates a loyal servant of his, Frankenstein, who is currently the principal of a high school in South Korea. Rai decides that this school is the perfect place to help him learn about the modern world, enrolls, and begins associating with a group of good-natured students in order to 'blend in.' But this new world is no safer than the old; and the dignified, bewildered, technologically inept Rai finds himself embroiled in adventures both ridiculous and dangerous.

Invicible protagonist...

This is actually pretty rare in a shounen.

Usually, when starting a fight or meeting a new adversary, the typical protagonist is lagging behind at first, then he(she) is on the verge of destruction and despair and it seems that, really, this time, everyone is going to die, THEN he(she) gets a flash of inspiration and discovers a whole new and brilliant technique/sees his(her) nakama in great danger, and loses it, thus gaining super anger-related strength/lets some random philosophical principle resurface from the dephts of his(her) heart, and it gives him(her) peace of mind and the power to crush the villains, etc, etc.

HERE, the male lead is unbeatable from the start (pretty much godly, in fact) and each ennemy that comes at him (underestimating him, of course because that's a lot funnier!) miserably fails...
Well in its own way, it's quite refreshing. Sometimes it's good to just be the epic undisputed overlord.

Concerning the art, the plot, the (other) characters, and the rhythm, it's all nice, other reviewers have already sung the praises of all that, I agree about most of it.

And maybe it's also due to the outstanding efficiency of both the author (fast writing) and the scanlators (fast releases), but this is COMPLETELY ADDICTIVE, really.

(PS: I realized I may seem bitter in my description of typical shounen. Don't get me wrong! I love shounen. Not all are like that, and when they are, I love it! I was just exxagerating a bit to make my point. ^^)

At first I was like "It has colors, and the format is strange" since it was the first web comic I've read, then just after some chapters I was completely in love with the story. People may say that the characters don't grow, and when I read it I thought maybe the story wasn't good. But unlikely it gave me a very pleasant feeling and I could love each of them knowing they are like this, and the more I learned about them the more I liked.
Even though Rai is pretty much a different protagonist he doesn't lose to any shonen manga protagonist, with time I just fall in love with him. Frankenstein wasn't a problem either since he has the kind of personality I like. All the other characters who came afterwards pass me an incredible nice feeling and make me cheer for them. I like the fights and I read lots of shonem, so the fights are good and even though the fights of Noblesse aren't the usual "find the strength in you", but it doesn’t lose to other stories. The story is surprising, I mean, even though I'm not the type who guess what is going to happen I didn't find any clue of what was going to happen in the end. Noblesse has all the things I could hope for a shonen and more, it's original and addictive. Noblesse is worth reading if it's not a need. I approve completely!

Honestly, I am a lurker. I would have never made an account if I didn't read the comments for this web-comic-manwha. Yes it can be "over hyped" and in general, everything is a copy/similar to anything else. That's why there are genres. But all of the negativity that I see are all childish. As a particular user said, thought I am not sure how credible that makes me, I have read over 10 years of manga. Started off with Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and Naussica. Only recently have I been interested in manwha and webcomic though. This is not a manga. It a sense, not even a manwha. It is a web-comic that gets updated once a week. So of course it will be a dragging on of "what happens next?" type of story. Every web-comic is. The mentality created from reading manga which have a set number of pages to constitute a chapter, then volume, creates an illusion of solidarity. That does not allow the same comparison to a web-comic ffs. It's like comparing a movie to a tv series. The best you can get from a tv series is the previews and some episodes are better or worse than the last. In terms of story, yes, it isn't exactly wow/amazing but nowadays, not much wow/amaze me. But I do go "eek" because of how well drawn the characters are and the various moments that you appreciate it for. Perhaps I am generous in my 9 for my first post but I genuinely like this as it has the potential for a good story. As of this writing, I am on chapter 232 where things are picking up again.

It all boils down to: THIS is a korean web-comic. It comes out weekly, translated by the wonderful people over at EG. It is not a manga. It is even debate-able to not even be a manwha. It is in a long strip formatting that may affect how the story is written and planned out. Also, consider how many chapters are out. IE, whether you are following the story's twists and revelations as each chapter come out or you are allowed the sanity of reading it in one full swept. The result is quite different. Also, the men are mostly pretty. The humor is quirky. And seriously, just enjoy it and over analyze it.

Wow, that was short at all. In a summary of the supposedly summary... it is a korean web-comic that differs from ****ing conventional manga that we are used to.

This web comic seriously has one big fault: i can't seem to be enjoying anything else i read. It's like, every action/comedy series that i picked up got compared to this and i ended up dropping them. I'm having such a hard time finding a great series like this. What does it not have? comedy, action, plot, characters development, this series has everything. Seriously, it's such a pain that i can't enjoy anything else sad

My Favourite Manga!
Rating: 10.0 / 10.0

Noblesse is my favourite manga of all time but that doesn't means it is flawless. It has flaws but then we shouldn't forget that no story is flawless. Allow me to describe its good and bad points ~

First of all, there are two types of stories. One which focuses more on plot then characte. In such stories plot is good but sadly most of the time characters are prety generic & dull.In second type of stories, characters are the main focus point rather than plot. The result being that the characters are more original & enjoyable. There is plot but not that great. Of course every story has both plot and characters but they focus on one point more than the other.

Noblesse main strength is its characters. The main protagonist is totally different from the standard shonen protagonist. He is cool, smart strong & silent. He doesn:t preaches the villains or anyone, and most of time he remains silent. You might think what's so great in this, right? Well, it's the way authors presented him. The second main character is a devoted servant who is a sadist in heart, and during the fight you would wonder who is the good guy. There are other unique & lovable characters as well. You see Noblesse focus much on the characters, their interactions, etc...

Noblesse has good action (in case of Rai it's plain massacre). There is witty humor in the fights which are serious.

The negative point of Noblesse is its somewhat repetiveness. But before you complain about this, let us remember that most of the mangas follow a certain loop to deliver plot. Let's see One Piece where the good guys arrive on an island for adventure, they find people in distress, then they sae them fron villains, and their name spreads... this pattern repeats like ten times. Most of the stories has a pattern. Nblesse is same, and its pattern being " Villains come to investigate in Korea, meets good guys, fight a battle on rooftops,... It focuses on this pattern to deliver its plot. So nothing exceptionally bad.

My only big complain is that many of the villains (not all) are generic. They boost about themselves like idiots & then die. We don't see much of their background info as well.

I recommened Noblesse to everyone who likes good characters, action and drama.

Why wasn't this the first series for me to leave a comment on?
I need to take a breath...

Noblesse is, to sum it up in one word, 'SOOMFGOODNESSAWESOMEZ'.
Never is there a boring arc, it has the good cliches instead of the bad ones, the characters aren't boring, and my god... THE ART. The art is probably my favorite webtoon art (minus Annarasumanara). At times it reminds me of the kind of stuff you see in western action comics (well only at the beginning, because of
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Jake's and M-23's transformations
). But don't let that turn you away, it's actually a mix done right. It's nothing like the failed attempts you see in the graphic novel section of a library (look up the manga version of X-Men to see what I mean). Then it becomes more and more sparkly bishounen/bishoujo stuff. Still very pleasing to look at.

And the characters, I love them. The females are capable of things, the guys have distict personalities, and my god they're all hot (fanservice for all sides). I wish there were more females, but hey... it is a shounen manhwa.
Rai is in a whole dimension of his own. Yes, he does seem perfect on the outside and has godly powers, but his actions have made me laugh so many times. He get pwned by Math, he can't figure out how to use a door, and what the hell... Banana? xD
Plus, it's refreshing to see a lead who's strong and stays strong.

Anyways, to end my ramble about how much I love this series, I must say I reccomend it to anyone who wants a break from the standard 'OMgesh I BE uberstrong power... FRIENDSHIPz... gurls cant fight durr' kind of shounen manga. smile

It's been a while since a new manga came out that was this interesting and addictive. There are very few mangas that I will rate a 10 out of 10, e.g. Berserk, but this one thoroughly surprised me especially with the most recent chapters which have added a great deal of depth to the story. The style that the manhwa presents is new and fresh, and although the storyline might seem like it's been done before by other authors this is one of the more interesting vampire stories.

The Elegance of the Noblesse

The number one reason I read Noblesse: Cadis Etrama Di Raizel.

Never, in all my years of reading all genres of fiction novels, short stories, epic poems, mangas, etc, or in all the movies or shows I've watched, have I ever seen such a self-sacrificing, loyal, and absolutely astounding show of character as I've seen in Noblesse. Here you've got the most powerful being on the whole planet from the get-go, who only uses his power at the last minute to protect those who care for him, and also to punish those who abuse their power even when it pains him to do so.

I can't write enough praise about Rai so... Frankenstein, his servant, is the second reason I read this. His devotion to Rai is awesome, and he's super powerful and wonderfully sadistic... really the opposite of his master.

The other characters are great too, even the "regular" human kids. I love the story and the plot. There's the traditional nobles on the 'good' side and the up-and-coming Union on the 'bad' side, though neither are really good nor bad.

It's not a mainstream shounen, but it is a shounen. Again, the MC is the most powerful guy on the planet, so he easily destroys those in his way. But he doesn't want to, he doesn't scream and yell about it, and it hurts him.

There are some flashbacks, but what makes them so great is they're just long enough for the reader to understand more about the present but yet not get bored with and stuck in the past. Some even only last a few panels, but much is told with just those few.

And the last bit of why this is my absolute favorite manga/manwha/etc is the humor. It's original, all of the characters show a bit of it, and it's fairly clean. It also comes at unexpected moments. Humor is a must for me and Noblesse does a fantastic job of delivering it.

Also... this is the ONLY manga/manwha I have completely read more than once. ^^

That repetitive kidnapping should stop.

The story became repetitive and predictable , the art did change and the plot is the same over and over , bad guys appear they kidnap the innocent children and our heroes defeats them in all the 6 seasons , and the annoying thing is the kidnapping the children , it became a habit that maybe the authors don't know another reason to make our heroes and villains to clash .

season 6 ended and the last battle was again another kidnapping , but the thing that was different this time was
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it was Seira ,Regis and Rael in the place of the children this time lol, but still they're children too in the eyes of our heroes .

A shounen I like

I normally avoid manga made for guys, being a girl, it simply isn't targeted at me and I often find them slightly offensive due to how female characters are almost always portrayed. However, I was bored, had nothing to read and needed to get out of the real world. And Noblesse showed itself to me. I love how it takes the piss, and how unbelievably bad-ass some of the characters are, (it makes me feel like a fan girl.) I love how funnily insane other characters are and that no matter how serious the story is at the time is always manages to slip something in there that makes you grin. It is also exciting and something I cnan re-read. I love how the baddies they meet aren't always all that evil and that although it is predictable, it has so many redeeming qualities that it is still a good read. I wish it was an anime as well, because now I have to wait for the chapters to update and I have to find something else to read.
