Description
Haru visits Canada to spend the summer holidays in the woodland house of his strict, strong-willed mother, Haruko. There, she burdens him with the responsibility of caring for his younger adoptive brother - a wild and unruly little boy named Ren who trusts no-one and prefers to wander in the woods with Haruko's dogs rather than associate other people. Haruko orders Haru to 'civilize' Ren.

As the young man strives to teach Ren how to live in human society, their relationship gradually improves - so much so that Haru plans on taking his 'little brother' to Japan with him once he finds a job.

Unfortunately, fate has a cruel habit of interfering with one's plans...

Like other comments are saying, the beginning of Super Lovers is REALLY promising! I loved the peaceful, idyllic ambiance of the first few chapters. But as I kept reading and Ren still looked SO YOUNG, I kept wishing that this was not a yaoi manga. If Super Lovers had ended up being only the first 5 chapters with an ending where Ren, thanks to the unconditional care by his big brother, opened up and had a new outlook on life - with NOTHING beyond a platonic relationship - I would've been pretty pleased. It would've been heartwarming and cute.

Buuuut instead, I kept getting more and more uncomfortable with the relationship between Ren and Haru until I dropped the manga after chapter 5. Even then, I still felt like I had read too much. Age gaps are fine, sometimes great - when the characters are older. Ren is just too young, and the dynamic between him and Haru just echoes pedophilic groomic a little too strongly. Haru's behavior towards like a 14 year old (and younger) boy just freaked me out too much. (And at one point, one of the characters rationalizes that after watching a 23 and 15 year old - QUOTE - "sucking face," it's not weird or alarming because they're "Canadian." Okay.)

BEAUTIFUL art and panel layouts as well as a very promising beginning - but the relationship between Ren and Haru just made me a little too uncomfortable.

There aren't many yaoi manga out there with a completely original plot. Super lovers is a typical yaoi story but I just love the art work and characters. Ren is adorable. People say this manga is overrated but that is the only word hipsters know. Super lovers isn't perfect. It has its flaws but it keeps me reading. If you like cute fluffy stories then you should read this one

Am I reading the same manga as some others do?? Shallow characters?? Really? I can totally relate to their feelings and I do think that there are visible character developments. This story really got me tearing up at many parts; it portrays the loneliness of both characters really well and their past explains why they rely on each other so much. And when did it get repetitive? Sure there are always some misunderstandings and then they make up, but that's life? Rather than typical manga cliches, I don't mind reading 100+ "repetitive" chapters if they are written well. But well, each to their own.
I totally enjoy reading it and it will always have a special place in my heart.

I find this story very well done. It's not like other yaoi stories where the uke and seme just jump straight to sex, it actually takes it's time to develop the characters. I find the characters very unique. The art work is beautiful, as expected of Abe Miyuki sensei. this is not a shotacon or pedophile because Rin is still growing. the only problem i have with this is the slow updates. overall, i think it is one of the best yaoi/shounen ai story there is.

Like everyone else said, it started out quite promising. I started the first chapter years ago and it really made me believe this was going to be close to la masterpiece or something, so I saved it for later(I tend to do that for some reason)... but wow this was quite disappointing now that I've actually read it. Just combination of all the story flaws is really unfortunate, the story goes no where, the characters really need some more dimension to make the premise more relatable, but instead the reader gets alienated and is left to believe that this is simply pedophilia. Another problem is just
... the storytelling is not very engaging in my opinion. I have read much dumber stories without struggling to pay attention.... Its just very unfortunate because the situation and cast is pretty great, if only they could have been used to their potentisl.

Romanticizes Grooming Step-Brother Incest

The relationship in this series makes me really uncomfortable. It's basically a how to guide on grooming, and the occasional side characters saying that their relationship is messed up doesn't change anything when the narrative continues to romanticize the leads' relationship. Plus, the graphic sex scenes with a minor make me especially uncomfortable. I will not be reading more of this manga. And the art being gorgeous isn't going to make up for everything that's wrong with this series.

This manga is quite shallow. A very light read and not bad, but it's not good enough to have such high rating. It's normal and nothing special or unique really happens. I tried to read it until chapter 18 and I can't take it anymore. Very boring.

So bad...

I tried to read this twice already and I always gave up. I really don't understand how come this receives such great ratings. I would say the first 5 chapters are good enough, and the very beginning, while they're still in Canada, quite promising -- I love the rural ambiance. However, after a while the plot seems to drag nowhere, the characters are flawed in a very inartistic way, and the art quality decreases significantly. And I don't get the love everyone's talking about either. I accept the age gap, even though the kid looks way too small for his age, but the fact is both Haru and Ren were not developed at all. It's such a shallow relationship it becomes annoying and even disturbing after a while. And the rest of the cast is just as bad. They absolutely don't care about what's going on between the two, they are so benevolent it's annoying. Ugh, I can't even think straight anymore. It's just so bad, all of it.

I agree with OmNom. The beginning was so promising! I really enjoyed it (although the huge age gap made me uncomfortable, although I do sometimes read shotacon). But as the story "progressed," I really began to dislike it.

I suggest only reading the first 5 chapters.

This manga is heading almost exactly towards the direction where Junjou Romantica's title story was. The start is promising I don't deny, but once the fluff wears off the naked truth remains, exposing the repetitive cycle that keeps going on and on forever to such an annoying degree one just can't take it anymore. Character growth? Development? Seriously, people, what have you been reading? The best asset that the series offers could only be the pleasing-on-the-eye art unlike its familiar friend Junjou Romantica. But even that couldn't save the whole thing from going downhill steadily and reducing to nothing but a train wreck. I'm just more than eager waiting for this manga to end so that I could finally add it to my complete list and move on with my life. My rating might be too harsh but it's worth balancing the ratings out to make it more accurate. People overrate these types of mangas too much. Too much.
