Read about 70-100 chapters 2 years ago and it's...kinda boring.
Apparently the next hundred or so are where some interesting things happen but...I don't know if I'll ever bother.
I can say that in those first hundred there's a lot of hints of world-building that haven't amounted to anything. Which would be fine if the interim was filled with other interesting stuff. But...it isn't.
I normally write more detailed reviews/comments but its' been a couple years now. I guess at the time I felt bad about posting a negative review after all these glowing ones.

Finally, a manhwa adaptation that does the original novel justice. Amazing art and good pacing, the details in the novel are also represented very well in the manhwa. So far it's been very faithful, which is great, since most of my gripe with adaptations comes with losing some nuances introduced in the original novel.

I'm patiently waiting for my favorite arcs to be adapted. I can't wait to see

I love this manga. The world building is amazing. The MC has a ridiculous cheat skill that still turns out to have believable limits. The overlay of other characters with other cheat skills is wonderful. The cast of characters are rich. The play with time is amazing. The philosophical underpinnings of the world are beautiful. The interlay of multiple cultural histories is great. This is just a fabulous piece of work.

The meta-narrative about the nature of a story is profound and beautiful. It also feels well paced as it explores the nature of stories from the metaphor of what otherwise feels almost like a tower climbing manhwa.

Instead of devolving into an endless cycle of cheat-fueled powerups like so many manhwa with a similar premise, this one gains emotional resonance as it goes on. You care for the characters more over time, and even though the world is fantastical, the stakes feel real.

Flame does a really high-quality translation that helps that come through.

Excellent adaptation of an excellent novel

This is very, very strong. It's got good art, great pacing, and the translation is looking stellar as well. It's an adaptation of a fantastic webnovel to begin with, so there was always going to be a solid base to build up from. ORV is an incredible story that looks into what it means to BE a story, and the layers and elements that are involved. It's twisty, and clever, and there is so much going on to do with meta-fiction and genre awareness. I think ORV really rewards its readers for their patience and time, and respects their presence in the story -- ORV is about a reader, about a Dokja, after all. The characters are vivid, and realistic, and filled with heart and humanity. This story develops, and develops, and not a chapter is wasted. It's a funny story, and it's a sad story too, and it has a great sense of balance for all of these.

So yeah, we're working off some great stuff. But the webtoon itself is really good! I really appreciate the nuance in how different scenes and different characters have been adapted into this format; no detail has been missed, which is really impressive. In general the sense of colour is lovely to look at, and I really enjoy the linework too. I think this is a beautifully put together webtoon. Man, I sound like one of those obsessive fans of mediocre stories that are just embarrassing to look at, but I think ORV is going to get very, very popular as it continues, and it will have earned that. I highly, HIGHLY recommend, though if you want to wait for a bit so some chapters stockpile I wouldn't blame you -- it's very easy to binge through ORV!

Not just some Solo Leveling spare-time read

I'll be honest, I was looking for something to fill the reading gap left by Solo Leveling.

Now I'm equally engrossed in both! I started reading the novel of Omniscient Reader after being a few chapters in the manhwa. Now I'm halfway through the novel and it is absolutely great.

This is an entertaining, twisty and clever read. I am very much looking forward to the next chapters.

Of course this is gorgeous to look at as well, since the same artist crew as in Solo Leveling is involved.

To sum it up: go read it, you won't regret it!
